Info Nintendo Fly In Extra Wii's to Meet Demand

    From www.dailyrecord.co.uk

GAMES giant Nintendo have resorted to flying in thousands of Wii consoles from Japan in a bid to meet demand this Christmas. The Wii has become the must-have gift this year and supply in the UK is struggling to keep up with demand. Amazingly, Nintendo have even cancelled TV ads for the console to prevent upsetting consumers who won't be able to get their hands on one. Rob Saunders, Nintendo's chief in the UK, said: "I am asking my bosses in Japan to fly in jumbo jets full of consoles to try and solve the shortage." The console, with unique motion-sensing controllers, has become the number one family gift of the year. A shortage of microchips used in the machines means only 1.8million consoles can be made each month.

there were rumors that some retail chains were holding back stock so they could bundle them loads of games as Christmas got nearer, could be correct looking at the current bump in supply.

They are making the most of the shortage, they have spread their stock out over the weeks leading up to xmas.
At least Dixons will be able to get rid of all their overstock of Pink PSP's, LCD's and crap wii titles.

I would be suprised if Nintendo weren't right upset with bundles either.

I went into Game yesterday to get a DS Lite and some random woman was offering me a voucher for a Wii as she had 2. Must have been a reservation ticket, I stupidly declined cos I was in a hurry and never thought about it til I got back to the car.

I live in Sheffield and still there is none here, except in CEX where they are 250 without a game. People are going mad here, I guess me and my man were just lucky to get one before the shortage.

My local asda had about a dozen earlier on this week, staff at the counter said to expect one large final batch on the 18th.
