MYGUIDE 3100

Hi Guys,

A mate of mine just bought one of these units. I understand you can run tomtom on these, but for the life of me cant find out how to do it.
Can anyone point me in the direction of an idiot proof guide how to do it?

Firstly mate the standard software on these is the bollocks so think hard before you remove it. A thread I was following told you how to run tomtom and igo on it is here but it's currently down.

I have one mate but don't have euro maps. I reckon they can be found on usual sources but not sure I do have one though mate and it is awesome, I just want TomTom on it too so I can have speed cam warnings.

I think on the box there is a website, something like myguide club. Go there, sign up and register the product, they reckon the site will be good once finished to help myguide users.

Definately worth the price mate, it connects to satellites quicker than the tomTom on my AyToBe, it's nice and small only problem is it doesn't have a hole for the stylus and no wall plug as standard but that doesn't really matter.

It is TMC compatible, the TMC add-on normally costs £50 but here it's £112.50 delivered for the MyGuide 3100 and TMC receiver, or here it's £130 delivered for MyGuide 3100, TMC receiver, and 1GB SD card with Euro maps! Bargain for any bundle. In a few days I will know if I have got a TMC receiver for Xmas (when family tell me ), but if I havn't and you don't want one I would pay you the extra plus your postage to me if you don't mind getting the TMC bundle

@ Rob, Euro maps £50 delivered here mate on a 1GB card.

EDIT: Looks like the Western Europe maps might be free here though

Bollocks I have just placed the order without the TMC. Is it really worth getting one of them?

*EDIT* I know why I never now, it was £112.50 before delivery (No super Saver option and need for the weekend.)

I'll hold off on the TMC until next year if you think they are ok, I take it the only advantage is that it will play Traffic news and not alert you on the device?

Well it depends mate, TMC (traffic message signal) will connect to FM bands and automatically re-route you around any traffic or accidents that have been reported to the TMC. Mainly useful on long/regular journies on the motorways etc.

Depends on the user mate so if its a problem you can cancel your order with ebuyer easily if you just placed it then reorder

The order is almost out for shipping (Paid for next day)! To be honest I will only be making 2 long journeys in the next month and I know some 'quiet routes' so fingers crossed I will be ok.

Let me know how you get on with it, it is something I will prob look at next year.

Yea, to be honest I was under the impression that this unit wasn't TMC compatible, that's what halfords said when I got mine there. Only after looking at ebuyer again did I realise so I will get one next year at full price if I don't get one for Xmas

Well I will defo make a purchase of one after the new year. Only saving a few quid in the bundle really. Hopefully they will come down in price.

There are probaly generics availiable for a fraction of the price but finding out the name of the specific plug socket might not be easy as there are a few and they look trippy as anything.

Also not sure if the TMC receiver runs software or protocol to connect to different brand software/hardware. Not a clue how it all works just know what it does lol.

OK got the MyGuide yesterday, impressed so far. The test will be tomorrow when I use it.

I have noticed though that you can only store two favourites.... It does remember your recent journeys so it won't be too bad if you can rename them.

Ive been using the Myguide for the past couple of months, and i really cant fault it!!!!

I cant remember who wanted the speedcam files for the myguide.
You can buy them here for a years updates (ive bought mine).

I cant recall, but ive a strong feeling that the MyGuide3100 will accept the IGo plugin...

Not sure about favourites mate as I don't use them but there might be a plugin for them.

I think I might have to pay for my speed cam subscription this year lol. Unless Jesta wants to upload them

I think the software is iGO so if you have problems finding MyGuide US maps I'm sure you will find iGO US maps pretty easily

Just wondering is it possible to change the voice on on these myguides aswell?

Whilst putting the camera database on i noticed there's a file called
\Flash Disk\MyGuide\voice


For ne1 not sure how to do this here's the instructions ripped from Pocket GPS World

Installing Pocket GPS Safety Camera Database



1. Connect unit to PC (may require installation of Active Sync)
2. Use 'Explore' to browse the unit
3. Go to: \Flash Disk\MyGuide\POI\SPEEDCAM
4. MyGuide: Remove any files currently in this folder (SpeedCam.spdb, SpeedCamUpdates.spdb and PGPSW text files)
5. Copy the extracted .txt files to this folder (excluding 'release.txt' and 'license.txt')
6. You may need to 'soft reset' the unit

Activating Pocket GPS Safety Camera Database (MyGuide)



1. Activate the speed camera database through the following menu commands:
* Settings
* General Settings
* Speed Warning Options / Alerts
* Enable Safety Cameras
2. Ensure sounds are active:
* Settings
* Sound
* Activate 'Master' and 'Voice' and set sliders towards the right
3. On the Map view ensure the speaker icon is showing without a cross
