    Default 169.254...

Cannot get my recently rebuilt Dell D600 laptop to connect to my router at home successfully. When I plug it in here I get the network immediately yet at home I get the dreaded 169 address and Limited or No Connectivity for both the wireless and the cabled network.

Starting to piss me off now as I cannot work from home any more and I hate coming in work. I have tried the Winsock XP Fix and no joy. Have rebooted my router and still no joy.

    Any ideas?

Probably a stupid question, but have you got any other computers at home that are still working with the existing setup?

Yeah my main PC, another laptop over wired or wireless and my N95 happily connects using WPA2.

Hi Mate, have you checked the following

    Firewall enabled?
    Correct Network Card drivers
    Network card set to DHCP
    MAC filtering on router?
    DHCP enabled on router
Does it work via a wired connection.

    ^^^^^^What he said....

It is also possible that the IP stack is corrupted.
Do not look to 3rd party solutions if it is not working with the default windows tools there is something big not working.

Not somehow disabled in the BIOS is it...?

Everything has been done above and seems to make no difference.

Doesn't work wired or wireless. MAC filtering was cleared on the router. Drivers are right, DHCP works on the router with all other devices.

If you go to a DOS prompt and type

ipconfig /all what do you get back, Do you get a valid MAC address back. I have seen NIC cards packup and the MACs go to something weird like 00-00-00-00-00-00

Does it connect to your network when your network is open? Disable the wpa and try to see if your laptop connects and when it does then re-enable the wpa..the amount of times that Ive seen that work is countless:X

bind the mac to an IP on the router.

shouldnt cause you any more problems.
