Xbox 360 Would it matter to Xbox 360 gamers if HD DVD died?

    From xboxer.tv:

Personally though, I don't seem to bring myself to care. Perhaps I'm in the minority, but the idea of turning my games console into a jack of all trades multimedia monster never really appealed to me. I accept that having extra features available are welcome as a convenience, but to be honest, I don't think it would make any difference to whether I'd want to buy the console or not. I'd want to buy it on the strength of its games library, rather than its ability to browse the web or download TV shows.

As far as the gaming capabilities of Blu-ray go, while it does give the PS3 hardware a boost, power of hardware doesn't correlate with quality of games. The PS2 was the best console of the last generation because of its fantastic games library, despite the original Xbox being a more powerful machine and packing in a hard drive. The victory of Blu-ray would be by no means a good thing for the Xbox 360, but in the long run, the console battle will be fought with games, not hardware.

no, it had f'ck all to do with the 360 really, If it had been integrated in the same way BD is with the PS3 then maybe. I doubt any 360 owners bought the machine with the primary use for it being to play HD DVDs.

it wouldn't bother me - i'd be a little annoyed if i'd bought the HD drive but i haven't. It would be nice if they did consider an external BR drive if it went that way. Mind you by the time all this sorts it self out, there will be a new console out anyway.

I couldn't care less about HD-DVD and the 360, its far too nosiy to be any kind of media hub for your front room. And how many PS3's to you think they would have sold if that couldn't play bluray films?!?! Its not as if its got many good games on it that are PS3 only so to be honest I don't think many at all. Sony needed bluray to win the format war or the PS3 would have been a complete flop and the amount of cash lost would be unreal.

If you want a media hub for the front room that actually works then just buy a cheap silent PC that can play everything. Then when HD-DVD/Bluray players drop in price just get one of those instead.

lol - another stupid article posted by "the bot"

    360 - Gaming device
    HDDVD player - movie device

My new 360 aint that loud either btw. You don't even notice the sound coming from it when watching streaming movies (I don't have the HDDVD addon but apparantly that's pretty loud!)

I use my machine for gaming and if I want to watch Hi Def on my 360 I just stream Hi Def wmv anyway, so I wouldn't miss it one bit.

Doesn't matter unless games were to be released on HD-DVD. I have the HD-DVD drive but will sell it soon as I have a blu-ray notebook coming.

I couldn't give a monkeys rear end either, I did plan on getting the HD DVD addon at some point a while ago but decided against it because of the noise the damn things make!

I'm in no rush to buy a HD DVD or Blu Gay play either, I want to wait until there's an obvious market leader, then and only then will I decide. I might even wait until the burners are are £20 a pop and the discs are 25p each and burn my own lol
