Selecting a Receiver?

So trying to find a receiver that would be good for me... but not too expensive (looking in the few hundred dollar range). But I have no idea what is good or if I can go a different route instead of a receiver. My main goal was to be able to create a DVD backup server and be able to stream those to the TV and have something like a 5.1 surround sound setup.

Any suggestions on what i could do?? Thanks Guys!

Check out tvix. Sounds like it would do the job and they play MKV's
