    Info Philips CD-i

    (Inspired by another thread)

Who had one of these then? I did, it got me into 12 months of debt! £700 for one with the "digital video" cartridge. It was like I owned a space age gadget.

It was so far ahead of itself. Video cd playback, photorealistic games, wireless controllers, human vioceovers instead of synthesized ones, it was incredible! And remember this was almost 17-18 years ago!!!!

And the games? 7th Guest, Palm Springs golf, International Tennis Open, Burn:Cycle, Dragons Lair, Voyeur, Escape from CyberCity, Mad Dog Mcree, Microcosm, Litil Divil, chaos control, caesars world of boxing and more!

For those of you who had one and loved it. Here's a bit of retro lovin!

YouTube - Escape from cybercity CDI Philips

YouTube - Burn Cycle for Phillips CD-i

YouTube - The 7th Guest CDI Philips

YouTube - International Tennis Open for Phillips CD-i

    YouTube - Litil Divil

above games are Palm Springs Open, Dragons Lair, Tetris and Voyeur (an early fmv soft porn game!)

Of course most of the games playability wasn't up to much, but the eye candy more than made up for it 15-18 years ago!

The digital video cartridge... I wonder what was inside this metal beauty! Just extra processing power or what? Anyone know?

And here... for Ganty and the other pervs is Voyeur!!

    YouTube - Attract Mode - Voyeur (CD-I)

It was quite saucy for its time!

Palm springs gold used to play it for hours remember working in a computer store and we had one setup on a sony 21" crt it took 3 strong lads to carry it

also when the shop was quiet we played doom over the network and made our own levels like the roker park level

those were they days oh and the electron +1 was better than the bbc micro just the games never worked !
