Sexual Predators Exploit Xbox 360 to Target Children

ChannelCincinnati.com reports that Xbox Live has become sexual predators' new playground as the online gaming service for the Xbox 360 allows ped0philes to lurk online and communicate with children through headsets and instant messages. WLWT Cincinnati reports:

The FBI has investigated cases in southern Ohio, where sexual predators have used game systems such as Xbox 360 to target children.
"A ped0phile is talking to a child, they are gaining their trust and understanding, and then tries to engage in that next level, which is taking them from the cyber world to the physical world," said Douglas Roden, an FBI forensic examiner.

Its different if one of use were to go out & meet another DF'er, cos we're all old enough & mature enough, but a 12 year old kid should NEVER, EVER go and meet strangers they have met on LIVE! or chat rooms, etc!

I won't be letting my daughter go anywhere near a PC unsupervised. Plus it'll be so locked down and have covert monitoring software on it she won't be able to do anything without us knowing.

lol, this sounds extreme, if your kids aren't stupid then they won't go and meet anyone. My parents used to say "never take anything off strangers" and I think this should apply to 360 live as well now. You just need to educate your kids and trust them excessive monitoring doesn't seem like the way forward.

Well it might sound stupid but since the age of 14 I have met many peeps off the internet, mainly off of 28dl for urban exploration but I met a few girls over MSN somehow and met them and had some fun And plan to meet some peeps from here soon. Obviously I wasn't alone and my parents knew when I met these girls at 14 and they came to my house, how convenient for me

perants are a key i do my job as a dad and stick to the games raiting syestem for them to play 18 rated games for 18 years and older if perants dont stop buying the kids games and saying its just a game the goverment will ban them from being violent or sexy

there my kids and i watch out for them in every way i can

a console thats open to the net is as good/bad as a pc and thay have good peranting softwere so why cant we have some thing for the 360 i mean even if we take away headsets there is still messages

ANY form of social networking, even things like sms has the possibility of being abused by weirdos, it is the parents responsibility to do all they can to keep their kids safe.
Thats not to say M$ should turn a blind eye to it, any responsible, but un uninformed parent may just say no to having a 360 at all, which is one less sale for them.

M$ themselves should be at least seen to be taking steps to get rid of freaks off xbl, this is exactly why Nintendo stick to their much criticized friend codes system.
