    Question Private reg purchase questions

I am thinking of purchasing a private Registration for my bike & have a question..

    1. Once its on my bike & say i sell it can i get my original registration back (so i can keep the private plate).

    2. Does a private plate affect insurance or anything else..

    Thanks
    Cheers

You might not the exact original but you will get one to reflect the year that the bike/car was originally registered.

Yes they will charge as you will either:
Move it to a new car or retain if for the future both have a cost

Yeah once you sort out all the details you will get send a form to fill out .I went to my local DVLA office and they did everything there for me Tax Disc etc I just had to send away for new log book

As I recall I think they charge £80 for changing over. It'll cost the same to move back again.

It is most likely if you sold a private plate you would receive the original back, but the only way of being 100% sure is to pay to have the plate held on retention.

Interesting thread this. I am after a particular reg number and the dvla site says it has gone. Is there anyway of getting intouch, finding out who the owner is so I can ask them to sell it to me?

I think you can write to the DVLA and for a fee will give you the registered keepers details

    Thanks mate.

Any idea how long it takes from when you buy the reg on the website to how long it is before you can put it on the bike?

If you are doing it all by post, then it can take up to 2 weeks.
If you are already in possession of the private plate, then it can all be over in 1 day if you attend a local DVLA office in person.

    Just done one mate...
£80 fee for removal & £25 for retention (if your holding the plate but not on a car) £80 if your moving it to a new car
Free to apply it to your new car once you've payed the £105

If you don't put it back on a car within 12 months you have to pay another £25

Info Re: Private reg purchase questions

Just a quick update for information.

I spoke to the DVLA people today on the phone and they say it takes, at the moment, about seven to ten weeks for the paperwork to go through.

If I went to my local DVLA office (and there is one just around the corner from me) it can be done there and then but only if they are not busy and they have to inspect the bike it will be going on.
