before getting a new one, have you tried to take the old one off and clean it?, sometimes you get a deposit on it that affects it's performance, a simple clean worked on the wife's clio that failed on emmisions.

Engine will be one of the x12xx codes, that number refers to the actual size.

Sorry never tried to clean a lambda myself (except with a cloth ) but I will say make sure to get a decent spanner (iirc, the last couple I've removed were both 21mm) to remove it, they are often ridiculously stuck. If you know you are throwing the old one in the bin and have the replacement, easiest way is to cut the lead and get a ring spanner on it. Poor quality open ended spanners will just bend ever so slightly whilst rounding off the lambda. Obviously the only problem with this technique is that there is no chance of fixing it with just a clean.

Edit: Are there any flat spots in the rev range? If so I would try to get the diagnostic code out as it could point to an airflow sensor. See if the paperclip trick applies to your car.

If you are a diy type person and don't mind spending the time, I personally would clean the lambda before paying for a diagnostic.

That's the one. Also some recent cars have one lambda before and one after the catalytic convertor.

Just be grateful you don't have 4 lambdas like on mine! Two before the CAT and two after. One of mine has failed, £200 quid from Toyota.
Hooked up to the OBD kit and it's just the heater element so can get away with. Fuel economy and performance haven't been effected, only slight issue is a rough idle. Passed MOT with flying colours so emmissions are alright.

If you need a diag doing, where are you based? If near Wigan/Bolton/Manchester I can do it for free if you want? Or if you have a laptop you could borrow my OBD box? If it's compatible anyway.
Ooh, ooh, ooh, the funky gibbon.
