Default How to check how far you are from the exchange

[Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

Type in Phone Number and Post Code - then click on BT ADSL or whatever

    Less than 1km is fantastic

2km you should expect half speed to what you order

    5km forget it

Yea the site deals with straight line distances, not real cable distance. I'm less than a mile from the exchange yet over 3k in cable distance.

It sucks but there you go.

    BT ADSL broadband availability
You are connected to the Darwen telephone exchange.

ADSL is available in your area
Your exchange is also enabled for ADSL Max services

According to BT Wholesale, your phone line should be able to support a 4Mbps or greater ADSL connection via ADSL Max.

    Standard ADSL RAG results:
[BT ADSL Code: GEGEGEC] You can receive 2Mbps ADSL
[BT ADSL Code: GEGEGEC] You can receive 1Mbps ADSL
[BT ADSL Code: GEGEGEC] You can receive 512Kbps ADSL
[BT ADSL Code: GEGEGEC] You can receive 256Kbps ADSL

You are approximately 2.24km from the exchange (straight line distance).

I tend to get a 6meg connection via Tiscali's TV service. I'm happy with that.

It's down to the wiring, your exchange might be next door, yet the wire from the exchange to your home could go for miles before it reaches you.

Stick everyone on superfast wimax and be done with it!!!

doesnt really work out, the distance to the exchange as the crow flies must be at least 50% kess than the actual cable distance, but if i'm lucky i get a whopping 1.5meg.
