I'm pretty sure the wrench symbol means it needs a service but don't quote me on that. Don't go to a main dealer as they will charge you an arm and a leg. Find a small garage with a tech 2 scanner or obti scanner (I think) and they will find the fault and charge you a fraction of the cost.

I wouldn't drive around for too long though as it MIGHT be something more serious.

Ahh just read your reply mate after posting. If it went off after she switched off and on then it sounds like your key might need re-coding.

Yeah it means there is a fault and in needs investigating before doing too many more miles. It happened on my vectra a few month ago and turned out to be a faulty wiring loom according to the dealers.

I took it to the local dealers and they wanted me to pay them before they would even look at it, even under warranty. I drove it round to another garage who checked it out and their computer whatever was telling them an injector fault which would have cost a small fortune so once I knew what it was I returned it to the dealer for them to fix under warranty. The best bit the 2nd garage didn't charge me. so a delivery of stella was made after it had been sorted.

weather it was a loom/harness or the injectors the car drove like shit, I managed to shut it down and restart and it cleared the error but after a while it came on and stayed on The car goes in to limp mode to prevent any damage being done to the engine.

Should still have the code stored in memory to retrieve, even if light is off. There is a trick with a paper clip that works on some vauxhalls - maybe worth looking up to save on the diagnostic fee?

The car will store a log of whats gone on, they will be able to find out exactly when the problem occured.
