Default Any VB.Net programmers in here?

As in the title, i am doing a course at the moment and looking for some advice on the subject. i been on it now just over a year and the first stage is sql server 2000 then the next stage is vb.net web based apps etc.

i chose to take the database route in this course.

I looking for some advice as i finding it hard at the moment with distant learning, reading through a book then trying to answer the questions it asks etc.
i need some sort of differnt approach to it

    cheers in advance

that approach wouldn't work for me either... why not either set your self a scenario and then use tutorials to try and do this...

or maybe using a video tutorial website there are loads around and just go thought every section.

but what works well for me is using the books "for dummies" reading thought them as completing all the tasks... i wouldn't answer questions its the practical part thats the import thing you should be learning

I'm in the process of learning WPF/C# after 10 years of VB6 :s

I've had to learn other tools in the past and I have always found that personally the best method for learning is to set myself up with a mini-project and then attempt to complete it in the new language/technology.

I do some vb.net and asp.net which uses vb.net as the code behind. Is this what you mean?

I've been programming in VB.NET for a few years, I've recently changed to C#. I'd recommend the same for you if you still can. Bottom line is you can earn £6,000 a year more as a C# programmer (based on average salaries), plus having seen both sides, C# is a far better implementation of the language.

As for the learning aids, I agree that the video tutors are excellent.

gotta agree with the video demos.. they are great for proper visual walk throughs..

watching the sql server 05 ones off here http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/express/aa718391.aspx atm.. they are free msdn ones, but there are paid courses which are supposedly good value, you might be able to find em elsewhere.

Been using vb 6\sql server for the last 10 years, VB.net\c# for the last 3.

Ripping through books cover to cover and studying microsoft exams has been the way that i've learnt languages properly.

The first book you go through is a pain, then the next gets easier due to cross over etc, and so on.
