The smallest wideband aerial, that actually works with the digital freeview boxes, will very much depend on where your property is situated, and where about in the building, you intend to try using it ..

One of my sons, still at University, is in a very difficult location, but after a lot of playing about, the very basic aerial theory, worked perfectly, much better than any of the commercial product (and I tried quite a few !!) ..

The aerial we finally used (made actually), was based on a 'Slot Aerial', the configuration of which 'should' be well know to most electronic engineers, and all good/qualified aerial installers, but a quick guide follows, for those who are not familiar with it ..

Just a length of coax is needed, at little under 6 foot in total length, coaxial plug at one end, five foot eight inches in length, and 7½ inches, stripped at the opposite/other end ..

One of those old 5mm coax lead extenders may be ideal .. ??

With only using 5 foot, it will make no difference whatsoever, if you use 5mm coax, as far as losses are concerned ..

If you do have 7mm, use it by all means, but being stiff, it will be more difficult to work with, and a little more difficult to manover correctly, plus, it will not pick up as much signal along it's length ..

The stripped end is formed into a circle (inner soldered/twisted to the end of the inner wire) ..

Soldering is better, but a good electonically connected, inductive loop must be formed, to prevent interference
The circular shape may have to vary VERY SLIGHTLY, towards an oval, and once positioned ideally, some form of fixing would be handy ..

We have always found that, for some reason, women are better at finding an ideal position, than we blokes ..

Maybe it is as simple as them having more patience .. ??
    But I'd doubt that ..

I hope you find this handy Wizard my friend ..

    Procode ..
