Recording Video Stream

Hi,
I have subscribed to a footy streaming site, but as always can't be at the PC at every game showing. I can view the streams in winamp, but would like to know if there is a way I can record video streams

Try VLC its very good for streaming and can record in a number of formats... Google "VLC" it will be the first result.

I have VLC and enter the stream URL, but then can't seem to find the process on how to record it?

To open a network stream from a website with streaming video with VLC, Copy the address bar at the top of your browser. It should end in a video extension, such as .mov or .wmv etc, open the VLC player. Navigate to "File" and then "Open Network Stream". Select the "HTTP" option. Paste the address bar into the URL field.
Under "Advanced Options" select "Save/Stream". Select "Settings". In the next box, select "Play Locally" and then "File". Select the "Browse" button. Choose a saving location and a file name. Select "Ok" on both dialog boxes. The video will start streaming through the player and onto your hard drive.
Once the video is finished streaming, navigate to the saved file. Right click and select "Rename". Add ".MPG" at the end of the file name. The video is now playable and saved to your hard drive.

Why not just download the file? Save you a lot of work.

The only use i can see from VLC's recording tool is when you're watching a live stream from f.inst. a webcam.

I think you'll find that quite a few sites wont let you use that method although there are a few workarounds... take a look here

If you use the Firefox browser there is an addon called "Unplug" which will give you the actual link to where the file is stored and I'm sure there is an equivalent for IE.

The best thing about VLC is that it can change the format of the stream on the fly ready to burn to cd/dvd.

I use internet download manager works fine for me..
