Default Advice needed on a new setup.

I am looking to buy a sat setup and have been reading up for the last couple of weeks. I am not sure what to purchase. Ive been thinking along the lines of a 90cm dish (motorised) with maybe a linux receiver such as a dreambox (maybe a clone) or a HD receiver thats patchable. I am mainly interested in football and movies so the development of D*gitalB decryption today on conax through a diablo 2.3 has took my interest although I would rather just patch a receiver.

What setups have people got and what do people think i should go for? Is it worth going for the HD at the moment (I dont really fancy paying 360 quid for a HD dreambox)

Iam definately a noob in regards to sat setups but ive had a fair bit of experience with a cable dbox 2. This makes me think I should definately go for the dreambox

    hi m8,
you need at least a 90cm dish!motorised would be ideal (quite easy to install if you have a little diy know how) plenty of tutorials on alsat or satdudez.

i would have a read up on diablo cams, think theres been a bit controversy over these!

of the linux boxes the eagle (dreambox clone)has really good support regardin patches and queries.the technomate 9100 seems to be quite popular as well but a bit more of a learning curve than the eagle.

good luck in your choice m8

just grab a technomate 9100, 1 meter motorised dish and off you go. then when you really get into it worry about HD etc later

The technomate is also a Linux box, a bit like your dbox2 so you will find a lot of things similar

You can add a HD to the 9100 but the interface is no where as user friendly as the Sky+.

You will basically have to set recordings as you did on your old VCR.

PVR = Windows Media Center or something similar
