My friend bought a second hand ford focus warranty and he said it was quite restrictive. You have to get the car serviced and MOT'd through an official ford dealership, which is not the cheapest place in the world, they also like to have a few 'get out of paying' clauses in the small print so is it worth paying 350 quid? How much did you pay for the car?
Only paid 1700 but its a car dealer not ford

Well it's a big chunk of money, I'd be more inclined to use that cash on buying a really good roadside assistance package from the AA/RAC/GF. See what a few other members say first before making your decision.
gettin roadside cover anyway but that wont cover repairs

I really do suggest reading the small print otherwise you will find yourself pissing 350 quid down the toilet, and don't take what the salesman says on face value "Yea mate it will cover everything" - If he says that, run.
Hmmm check this for a similar watchdog report on extended warrantys!

I'd probably plump for the warranty.
Whats the price of a gearbox or clutch for a Galaxy these days?
Would 350 snots even buy you 4 new tyres?

That is true Grint and on a new car I would consider it, but on this old beast, the warranty is bound of have repair clauses due to it's mileage. A lot of car adverts that offer free warranty on do so up to a certain age/mileage.
You also have to consider the 'extra' costs, dealers know that you can't buy anything with 350 quid, so what sort of excess is there?

watch the watchdog link. They say even the biggest second hand car dealerships give warranties that are not worth the paper they are written on.
there some very good warrenties online, just got have a hunt, as said some are compleate shit.
Personal experience is that these warranties are not worth the paper they are written on, mate. In most of them there is a clause which will state something like "will not replace any failure that can be attributed to general wear".
Well that sounds like pretty much anything that can ever go wrong on a car! Up to you of course, but I personally would NEVER buy a warranty again.
I have a customer who is a 2nd hand car salesman he has a few products that he sells as warrenties I had just bought a car so took a look at them. There are lots of clauses in them like nothing wear and tear is covered, repairs up to a certain value will be covered usually only up to about £500 or £700 so see what you will get. The work needs to be done by approved garrages most that sell the warrenty were approved places, they then inform the warrenty company whats wrong and the cost then they either say yes or no. It works very much like an insurance policy.
Personally I would stick the £350 in a high interest account and save it for repairs to the car. Next year stick another £350 in there and save it for the car repairs if you need them. as long as you look after the car and its been serviced as and when it should have been then you shouldnt get many problems even with a high mileage. If you don't use any cash to repair the car then you have saved £350+ intrest a year.
Thanks for your help
