Bad News FreeView NO ITV Channels!!!

    HI All

I have a Samsung TV with built in FreeView BOx. I have connected the Aerial lead to the VCR and then connects from VCR to TV. When I scan the channels it finds only 34 to 38 channels but does not find any ITV or Channel 5 I have tried to connect outside aerial connection directly to TV wiht no success at all! It just says no signal found check aerial retry or cancel!

My Aerial is located in the loft, any help would be gratefully appreciated. Many thanks.

Have you got a wideband ariel ? I doubt it looking at your above post. First thing I would try is move the ariel outside rather than have it in the loft. If thats not possible buy a wideband ariel for the loft.

It will still need to be positioned correctly in the loft .

    HI All

I have checked the Postcode and yes it does appear to be in an area covered by Freeview.

Wideband Aerial? Where from and which one? Also what is a Ballun and is it easy to install the aerial?

All the Channels were received eprfetly with san old Analogue TV

    Many Thanks.

You cant compare an analogue reception to a digital one m8!

As mentioned above try your current aerial correctly alligned outside, I would expect that to solve it.

If however you insist on keeping the aerial in the loft you will prob have to invest in a wideband aerial as mentioned.

    Check here!

    So they were scrambled?
Joking aside the analog signal is not the same as the digital, so the fact that they were received perfectly has no real bearing, save that your signal is ok (it may still not be strong enough for digital TV, since it is less tolerant to week signals/poor quality signals, which are not the same)
Conversely, you could have too strong a signal, which digital TV isn't too keen on either - if so you will need to fit an attenuator.

As I mentioned above m8! A good analogue signal has no bearing whatsoever on digital reception they are totally different animals!

Also analogue signals are less affected by trees etc, in that you will get a decent picture with analogue(some ghosting possible) but with digital it may be a non starter.

Your point about a too strong signal is also valid, but I doubt that the case with an aerial in the attic!

try some new coax. I had this problem with some really shitty coax with dodgy plastic connectors from wickes. I could only pick up maybe a quater of the channels. Got some new cabling with better connectors and hey presto it worked a treat.

Bad News Re: FreeView NO ITV Channels!!!

    HI All

I finally bought a Gigaboost aerial from Maplins but upon connecting it to the existing Coaxe cable previoulsy attached to the OLD aerial usinf F connectors I found now I receive no signlas whatsoever! I then found that the Amplifier they supply does not power up as the red LED does not light, tried the usaul changing fuses etc but no joy!

With my old setup and aerial the only way to get a signal was from Aerial connection to VCR and then VCR to TV! If you connected the Aerial situated in the Lft directly to the TV then the TV would not find any Signal!!!

Is this normal that you have to have the aerial connected to the VCR???? many thaks in advance.

best thing i could ever post m8 in this is
get you local paper and phone round and get a few quotes to get them to supply and fit an ariel for freeview !
i done just that and got them to install a splitter 6way and no booster needed for me

I used to use my vcr to boost the signal before putting it in the set-top box, your vcr might be doing the same thing.

Check for switches on the booster you bought, some you need to flick a switch to put it in the right mode, others I had to spin a dial.

you say you used the old cable,
i assume this is the black satellite cable, which is used for digital.
if you are using the old brown cable then this will be the cause of loss of signal.
you need low loss cable( black)

Hope you get it sorteed mate.

WF100 is the industry standard used by s*y engineers and us independants. WF65CU is the best money can buy for double feed systems (Sky+).
