    Default Power calibration error...

Couldnt find the "DVD duplication" section so hope this is ok in here....

Got a problem, when burning a movie to DVD (converted to DVD format using Winavi) I keep getting a "Power calibration error". I am using Nero 8 and think it may be the discs as they were not too cheap but relatively cheap from a supermarket. First 4 burns were fine, but can't seem to get past this error now. I've never seen this error before even with Bulkcrap discs!!!

Here is the log error log from Nero:

I used to get this a lot and found a move to the latest Nero and use of decent discs fixed my problem.

Either your writer is on its way out or the disks are pap, more then likely the disks, im getting the same error on Aone dual layers at the moment, but my writer will burn ritek dvdr all day long

Nero gave me this error but I tried ImgBurn and it worked fine, but it could have been a dodgy DL

i had this with an old matistusha (sp?) burner and although it had only burned 10-15 dvds it started with power calibration errors and then went on to have a full blown wobbler of a spindle failure replaced it with a liteon and never had another problem

fingers crossed its the disks though m8

When i had this problem, a quick clean with a dvd lens cleaner sorted it out.

It's either shite media, or your burner can't handle the media you are using (in which case, ensure you have the latest firmware).

if its shite media then the chances are that you bought it cheap anyway, so its hardly the end of the world replacing that

if that fails, new dvd burners are like £25 or something

depends on how much your time is worth i guess. upgrading the software on your pc is almost definitly worth it, firmware probably is if you are into that sort of thing and have nothing better to do. but don't fret over nothing if you are a busy lad, just replace stuff and it has to work eventually. and remember if you buy new media and it turns out to be the burner at fault, then you wont have to buy new media for fecking ages

Got imgburn myself, never seen the problem since after burning about 7 movies!!!

Fecking strange how Nero wouldnt burn anything (even though its the same software/version that I have ALWAYS USED without a problem) yet imgburn does it with no problems whatsoever

    Hi all,

I had the same problem when i was using Nero 8 and thought it was the CD/DVD s. I tried Roxio and it started burning with no problems with the same CD/DVD s.

so it was not the media or the drive and i tracked it down to Nero checking your product code / serial and when if finds a dodgy code it disables the software so you can not burn stuff.

I then removed Nero and cleaned registry then reinstalled and blocked nero from going online using the firewall and all has been ok.
    Thanks For Your Time

I had the same error before. If I restarted the PC it went away for a least one burn.
