    Looking for a quiet scooter

Hey guys, I'm looking to get myself a scooter and need it to be as quiet as possible whilst having enough oomph to transport a 6ft/95KG bloke up and down some pretty hilly scenery. I definitely do not want a motorbike and my licence is restricted to owning a 125cc... so any recommendations?

    Cheers

Quiet? For attacking women? Please clarify.

One of the guys at work as got one on pre-order, he reckons that his yearly comute costs will go from £1400 to £70 a year..... So after insurance it will pay for itself in 14 months, even if it has no resale value....

We are trying to get work so stick some charging stations in as well.

8p per 40 miles..... cannot argue with that.

If you are 6ft tall you are going to look a cock on a scooter regardless....

You might as well save a big wad of cash.

    Hey GTI

I have just got rid of the car and now ride a 125cc scooter..
a Honda Pantheon FES...I get an average of 90 mpg..it`s a large scooter very reliable proberbly the best in it`s class
i`m also 6ft..but happy to say no where near has heavy at 83kg..top speed around 70 to 80m mph.. £8 for a full tank
    heres a link and review..

    http://www.reviewcentre.com/review139679.html

    http://motoprofi.com/motospecspictur...heon-2003.html

There is a later version to this scooter called the honda s-wing but personaly i do not like the front of it
and it would seem thats all thats been changed.

there are quite a few scooters in this class ,Yamaha x-max, Piaggio x9,x8,x7, Suzuki an burgman to name a few,
but it comes down to personal choice..i spent 4 months going out looking at scooters and reading owners reviews until i found the one i was gonna be happy with..and with no regrets with my choice..starts first time every time and has never missed a beat..if you do get a scooter consider a decent lock and chain..search google for almax and watch the video

Thanks a lot for the review shaper, it sounds like an excellent machine. My only slight concern is the 150kg kerb weight. Since I might need to lug it around station platforms and on/off trains this might be an issue. I am sure weight = stability, but I may need to compromise a little for the sake of portability.... but I'm sure that Honda engine is silky smooth.

i have a gilera runner 125 m8, nice n quiet as i start it up on the back yard at 5am and no-one says they hear it..

plus side for you is that they are high as well....i got a kawasaki 500 and the gileras seat is higher than that and i have a 900 yamaha that is about the same seat hight as the gilera..so tall for a scooter..

£70 odd quid a year to insure... excellent on fuel and i have had it 4 years ....total in repairs..£35 quid for a tyre..

    go check one out ,,,

Cheers mate, I've seen a fair few vids on Youtube for the Gilera Runner and it looks a lovely machine, but I can't really get a sense of its noise levels since most of them are being ridden by chavs, revving the tits off them and doing wheelies

You mentioned the higher seat but if I'm relatively tall shouldn't I want a lower seat to keep my centre of gravity closer to the ground?

    Cheers

most of the noise on a scooter is from sports exhausts but if you leave them standard they are quiet ..

the hight on this bike is in the design and for a 125 it goes well and handles well,,,,some scooters are lower and if your a tall person yer legs will stick out the sides like a pair of sausage crash bars,, plus you will be uncomfy and also look like you just nicked it from a 12year old...lol

go to your local dealer and sit on a few to get some idea m8...

A 125 is (by definition) a motorcycle, and if you have no intention of taking (and passing) the motorcycle test within 2 years of your license becoming valid then you will be on an automatic 12 month ban (so think about the resale value).

Make your mind up....first it had to be as quiet as possible and now you want it to make noise.
Understeer is when you hit a wall with the front of your car
Oversteer is when you hit the wall with the back of your car
Horsepower is how fast your car hits the wall
Torque is how far your car sends the wall across the field once you've hit it

    not true any more m8,
a learner rider can simply retake CBT every 2 years and keep on riding
