    Question PC to iMAC

Hi guys, I am thinking of going from PC to iMAC but just wanted some advice from more knowelgeable ppl.

I use grabit for downloads, also use limewire. Are these compatible with Mac or do they have a mac equivalent.

I also rip and burn cd's but this is through itunes and nero so should be ok.

Is the proccess/cost worth it.. I am impressed with what I have seen so far in the apple store.

    Many thanks for you reply's

For newsgroups i use Unison, really good and simple program for downloading from a nbz file. Limewire is available for the mac, but iv never used or downloaded it.

iTunes on a mac is exactly the same as the windows counterpart. Transferring your library from the windows machine to the mac is dead easy aswell.

The iMac has a superdrive built in so burning the cd's wont be a problem

Iv been transferred from windows to mac for 6 months now, gotta mac mini and not too long afterwards i got a macbook. That is the one issue with mac's, once you get one you cant stop and will soon have/want more

I can honestly say iv never looked back since i have started using mac's

If you can afford it than id definately go for it. Others may think its a waste of money, as you can get a similar spec pc for a LOT less.

If your still having thoughts on it checkout www.apple.com/switch101 its designed for people who have made the switch all ready, but still worth a read if your thinking about the switch

    What Scottio said.

However don't you dare put limewire on it. fcuking limewire. Can't believe people on DF use it. Honestly you got to be some kind of internet n00b.

    Fucking limewire ffs.

I have just moved over to a black MacBook from Vista (what a pile of cack! XP rulez!) and after three weeks I am still quite pleased with the move. There are some issues for me like not having access to opened files from the taskbar like in XP or Vista (if somebody can show me a workaround other than selecting another window from the application that would be great). There are generally other ways of doing things though in OS-X that you can do in XP/Vista - you just have to do a bit of re-learning.

Also if you get yourself a MacBook do yourself a favor and get yourself a proper Mac keyboard. It has been driving me crazy having the CMD and ALT keys the wrong way around on a Windows keyboard. Logitech do a fab keyboard and mouse combo which IMO is much better than the Apple Keyboard and Super Mouse (though the Super Mouse does have some nice features).

If there are some Windows apps you simply can't live without use VMWare Fusion (which is much better than Parallels) and install XP

Once you get your head around things, you will love it.

The dock highlights what apps are open

Expose shows everything open on desktop

Also 'cmd' 'tab' shows what is open.

Ok F9 sort of gives me what I want. Items highlighted on the task bar only shows what applications are open and not windows within the application

    Thanks for your help

I tried the switch to Mac from PC last year, waste of a grand of my good money IMO.

I'd say, only go for the Mac if you have a reason not to use Windows.

Perhaps a few bullet points on pros and cons would help establish whether your opinion is worth taking on board. I know the answer to this already mind but if you are going to wade in with such a statement please back it up.

Macs don't play games (ok they do but not many of them and they probably aren't as good as the PC versions)

So far my MacBook has proved flawless for VPN, Remote Desktop, dual monitor support, boot speed, sleep speed, wifi and bluetooth connection. Ok it could do with a couple more USB connectors on it but that is about it. The only real negative I have so far is that I can't find a HTML editor that I like as much as Homesite yet and I don't really want to use that through VMware Fusion.

Office runs just the same pretty much on Windows. I have even got use to using Entourage.

DF still looks the same on a Mac as it does on a Windows machine so what more could you want!!

A short learning curve as there are lots of keyboard shortcuts to get the most out of it.
