Strange internet connection

anyone who is on my msn list will know ive been having problems with my connection today.

I lose conenction and it takes a minute or so to reconnect, when it does it connects at 2500k ish, which is higher than usual, it then works for about 10 seconds before disconnecting again and then reconnecting at my usual 1700k, as far as i know it doesthe same thing every time, which is about every 10 minutes or less.

Its a netgear router, wired connection with connection coming straight from teh phone socket to a splitter and then on a half metre of phone cable to the router.

anyone got any idea wtf is happening?

Sounds like Signal Noise on your ADSL line.
Phone Provider ask to do a line test tell them your issue.
But can also be your side of things with your adsl line
Friend of mine's Disconnects every time his heating comes on for a second or two.

Little more reliable now he has a shielded ADSL cable for his router.

by provider do you mean BT themelves, or my ISP?

try it on your test socket (if you have one) if possible and see what happens

funny you should say that but my connection has been fucked all day aswell. Noticed my router was red hot as it had some papers on top of it and the room its in was red hot. Unplugged it let it cool down, removed the papers and its fine now, lol.

yeah i thought it was due to the heat cos my router was red hot, moving it to a cooler location hasnt made a difference though although it did seem more stable last night when the temperature dropped a little.

Could be a few things as previously mentioned, but you kind of answered the question yourself by saying it was more stable last night when the temp had dropped.

Think about the following:

1 Heat - It's hot at the moment, I have a A/C pointing at our Router at work and it works fine.

2 Try using your test socket, wip the front of your BT telephone socket:

3 Report the problem to your ISP, they should deal with BT for you.

4 Test your connection with another router

I'd do what tombott above suggests, but I'd call the ISP first before you start crawling around. Unless you're a wizz at unplugging sockets etc.

my isp are checking the line for me, its been a lot better not the weather has cooled off though so i think it was actually just my router overheating.
