    inside or out...??

a good webcam will do inside with cam wizard or active webcam..

both prgms will use any webcam (up to at least 4 i think) to monitor your home.
They dont take up a lot of disc space as you cant set the webcams to motion detect and select the detectable area for each cam, also set it to upload to web so if some fooker nicks your pc they cant take the evidence.

works well as i use it at home..

only draw back i can find....need to leave the lights on as no good in the dark...

    hope this helps m8.

Why does "fat chance" and "slim chance" mean
    the same thing?

Bah, I just sold 2 panasonic BB-HCM 311 network cameras, would have been perfect for your needs.

To keep costs down you could try something like this with some USB cameras attached:

to be honest m8 i am using a 1.3 mp no name webcam on it i got from a computer show for about 7 quid, i have i inside facing out so i can see the yard and who comes to the door.

i can tell who it is straight away as its perfectcly clear and the motion detect is fookin ace, i had a bit of string hanging from the washing line about 12 foot from the windoe the camera is in and i had to go cut it off as it detected it and alarmed everytime it moved...

if you google infra red webcam there are loads of info on how to turn a normal cam into infra red , i think its just a matter of removing a filter but not tried it yet..

not bad if you get 3 or 4 cams going on yer pc its a bloody good home security setup for about £30 notes....

Makro are currently doing a 4 channel DVR kit with built in IR but I am not sure if it has ethernet. You will need a static IP for remote access. People like these

    http://www.cop-eu.com/acatalog/Shop_...ording_23.html

    or maplins

    http://www.maplin.co.uk/family.aspx?...20Surveillance

do DVR's etc or companies like Gardiners. There are a few that do entry level digital hard disc recorders with VMD.

Infra red only works on black and white camera's so if you want colour ones you will need "dual chip" camera's, that is camera's that can switch over to b&w as it gets dark.

Or you can buy a 4 channel DVR pci card for your PC. These have VMD built in with audio and work quite well for a basic raw system.

If you dont have a static IP you can still do remote access via "logmein"

    https://secure.logmein.com/home.asp

Though the refresh rate with this when I used it wasn't that good.

I am in the CCTV industry so if I can help I will
