Default am i better with sky or freeview?

my sister has just moved into a farm. it has no tv aerial but it does have a sky dish with a quad lnb.

im wondering if she would be better with a sky box(no subscription) or fitting a tv and using a freeview box.

i know the channels she gets with the freeview box but i dont know were to find a list of the channels she would get using the sky box. any ideas?

    Hi m8
u dont say if u have a HD ready tv, if so I would go buy the humax high def Freesat box (£150) and plug it into your sky dish. much better than freeview, they hope to have 230 channels by next year, service is free and HD channels. Humax is a quality box, much better than the bush/grundig or other cheapy boxes.
    good luck dude

Think you misunderstood doggy, he's on about FreeSat which is freeview in HD plus shedloads more channels and it means you should be able to use what she has ie the dish and quad lbn without having to rig an aerial up.

    Unless I misunderstood you both.

yes i got that bit. my sister isnt interested in anything fancy.
its down to cost and effort.
what i want to know is what channels are fta with a sky box.
i can then ask her if what she watches. for quickness it might be easier to give her a sky box.
so, does anyone know where i can get a listing for the fta channels on sky?

    thanks

    Hi Larry
you understand me perfectly, we are not talking about freeview or sky but freesat. If doggy has a sky box then he could hook it up and see, but would need a yellowhouse card. If Doggy doesnt already have a sky box instead of buying one of murdochs shit seekers he could buy a freesat box for as cheap, if not an HD one.
Doggy, please forgive me if we are wrong but we are not talking about through arial.all satellite is not sky, free sat is a fast growing decent free package which thankfully is on satellite and nothing to do with Rupert.
    cheers

    just to clarify.
my sister has a shitty tv and freeview box. she isnt into anything fancy and is as tight as fuck.
she has an aerial, but no pole. so it isnt very good at getting a reception.

she has a sky dish with a quad lnb.

i caN give her an old sky box if its easier than rigging up the aerial.

i basically wanted to compare the free channels on freeview against the free channels on sky.

there is no way im going to mention freesat to her cause that will just confuse her more.

but i might be interested in freesat for myself.

No that one will be fine...with your box ...just leave it in the box for 24hrs and it'll reactivate.

    If it doesnt ring Sky!

Just plug your old box with the card inserted into the feed.....most channels will work on the list above the others will work within 24 hrs.

this might be for another thread but youve got me thinking.

is there such a thing as a freeview or freesat box with a built in hd that can play and record to dvd. it also has to be able to play divx. hdmi would be nice too.

Hello mate i`m in the satellite game and lou_smorals had the perfect answer to your question

"Humax high def Freesat box (£150)"

But remember that although you buy a DVD recorder but this will not record in full HD as you would think, only live viewing from the Freesat box on selected HD channels will you get an HD picture.

Am i right, am i right, or am i right ?
