edit: called 0800 051 2596 and got the message that my SkyTalk was 'restricted' and pressed 1 and was immediately transfered to (skytalk) Customer Services. I asked to be put through to cancellations and was put straight through.

Just a query about what happens to the equipment when a customer cancels their subscription within the 30 days cooling off period?

it states the dish and box are yours in the starter up at the top.

Mine was taken within the week when I cancelled, this was a few years back. If this is still current. Then I am about to take advantage of this (perhaps)

    • All the Christian, BBC and ITV channels are free
    • You'll just stop getting the Sky subscription channels

If you still want Ch4 & Ch5, leave the card in the box after cancelling Sky. It should continue to work as a Free-to-View card. This means it will give you Ch4 & Ch5 and also give you the Sky Parental Control. Should the card ever stop giving access to Ch4 and Ch5, you can then buy a 5 year TV Viewing Card from Freesat-from-Sky for £20 by ringing 0870 240 5651.
    You keep the system

Your Sky box and dish are yours, so you keep them if you cancel Sky. If, after you have cancelled, your system becomes faulty, Sky will not be interested. You'll have to call a satellite installer instead.

Sky's satellite subscription customer base is slowing from what I read. However, they do have more sky sports subscribers than ever and their other businesses (such as broadband, NOWTV etc.) are helping the company grow. I think they are losing money to CS... But not as much as people think.

If people are like me, they are watching less and less TV through a broadcast medium, if at all. I watch very little TV and none of it (except sport) through a broadcast channel.

To be fair the mrs can't actually have a dish due to trees outside her apartment, which is why I investigated alternative ways.

I have to admit the NowTV is nice and I currently pay for movies and entertainment packs for her via that (she hardly ever uses it though)!!

It would be great to see something like a standard Sky box that pulls all channels over the internet and supported pause and record just like a normal box.

I read somewhere they are actually thinking about going down this route at some point maybe?

Reminds me I need to cancel Sports anyway on my mums subscription as they never use it (I pay a fortune for others access to Sky!!)

What a load of shit those figures are. I'd love to know there churn stats.

They have only managed to to pull in only four hundred thousand new viewers in four years.
