result How To Cancel Sky - The DF Way *UPDATED*

What You Still Get When You Cancel...

    • You keep the system
    • You'll still get over 300 free channels
    • 200 TV and 100 Radio channels are free
    • All the Christian, BBC and ITV channels are free
    • You'll just stop getting the Sky subscription channels
If you still want Ch4 & Ch5, leave the card in the box after cancelling Sky. It should continue to work as a Free-to-View card. This means it will give you Ch4 & Ch5 and also give you the Sky Parental Control. Should the card ever stop giving access to Ch4 and Ch5, you can then buy a 5 year TV Viewing Card from Freesat-from-Sky for £20 by ringing 0870 240 5651.
    You keep the system

Your Sky box and dish are yours, so you keep them if you cancel Sky. If, after you have cancelled, your system becomes faulty, Sky will not be interested. You'll have to call a satellite installer instead.

How to Cancel your Sky contract

    • You can cancel online, by post or by phone.
    • Sky only permits the account holder to cancel an account. This is the person in whose name the Sky account is held. (The person actually paying the subscription might not be the 'account holder').
    • There is a 30 day notice period.
    • To ensure your contract ends by 12th month, contact Sky before the end of 11th month. You can cancel at any time from the 11th month.
Phoning is likely to be very frustrating and time consuming so is not recommended. Here's the experience of one person who cancelled their contract.

"I've cancelled my Sky subscription ...... It was terrible phoning Sky to cancel. They kept me waiting an hour before I put the phone down, and it was one of those premium numbers too. In the end I emailed them and of course wished I'd done that in the beginning.”
Cancel Online - complete the Sky General Enquiry Form with your details including your email address.

In the message box, tell Sky you want to cancel your contract. Include your account number and any password on the account to ensure a quick and hassle free cancellation.

You can't email Sky Customer Services at Skydigital@sky.com as this email address no longer works.

Cancel by Post - The 30 day period starts from the date of your letter so make sure you date it clearly.

Sky will need to know your full name, address, account number, viewing card number and any password on the account. This should help to ensure a quick and hassle free cancellation.
    Sky's address is:-
Correspondence department, Sky subscriber service, 4 Mackintosh Road, Kirton Campus, Livingston, West Lothian, EH54 7BW

Cancel by Phone - If you're ready for the challenge, and want to try cancelling by phone, call Sky Customer Services. Your call will be transfered to the Cancellations department. You will be encouraged not to cancel and may be offered some half price deal to keep you with Sky a little longer.

To stop the sales team waffling - say that you have moved to a rented property and it is connected up for Virgin and the landlord will not let you have Sky shich you think is bollocks etc. They will not try to sell you anything and cancel your contract there and then

The 30 day notice period starts on the day you ring to cancel.

    Call 08702 40 40 40 from the UK or 0818 719 819 from the Republic of Ireland.

If you want to use an alternative to Sky's expensive non-geographic number: search at www.saynoto0870.com/search.php (more details below).

When I've given a cheaper geographical number on this page for Sky, that number has been quickly cancelled or blocked. So instead I suggest you search for an alternative to 08702 40 40 40 (or 0818 719 819 from the Republic of Ireland) at www.saynoto0870.com. Use their Enter Number Here box for best results.

Enter phone number or just wait to be transferred

Setanta and Sky are totally separate entities.

Assuming you are paying separately for Setanta then yes you will receive the free channels from Sky + Setanta.

However, I dont see the reasoning behind this question?

Cancelling your Sky subcription will not affect any other stand alone subscription that relies on your Sky setup/ card to access it.

There are some minor channel differences.

Do a google for "Freesatfromsky" and "Freesat" to see the differences.

ok, so I used the sayno website to get a landline number, use the one that says straight to operator

20 second wait for an op then transfered to cancellations dept after about a 3 min wait.

offered me Sky + for free (installation and box)
then offered free min package (the one I`m on) for 3 months
then added unlimted BB 8meg for £5

he then realised I wasnt having any of it........... told him I wanted to use the box as a FTA receiver and he said fair enough

    Cheers

i remember when i canceled with them it was a pain in the arse, if id known about "moving to an ntl only" area it'd have saved me 2 hours of my life i'll never get back

to this day theres only 2 channels i miss, eurosport and motorstv but i dumped sky 2/3 years ago cos their prices were getting stupid even back then and im sure i read about them going up again soon

I used a good method a while back - told them I had a contact abroad for a year and needed to cancel. I would join up again when I got back - no arguments, no hassle.

    This just for reference really.

I just called Sky to cancel. Waited around 15 min's on hold to speak to cancellations. Once through I didn't beat around the bush, simply told him I had just signed up to Virgin. (wanted to see what he offered me)

He offered to pay my BT landline for a year and that was all really. He also tried talking me out of it but I quickly said I didn't want to know and he's wasting his time, I just signed up with Virgin. After umming and ahhing he eventually said he was sorting it all out now and I would recieve confirmation in the post.

At the end of the conversation I thinked him for his help and he said no "Norries, speak to you in a years time...."

Overall, not too difficult and not too long on the phone either.

Decided to downgrade Sky channels waste of time using their contact forms, they don't reply.
So used this number from saynoto0870 01506677000 and got through within a minute to an advisor. All sorted.
