    Default key keeper??

key keeper? hmmm not sure itsbe st description.

getting fed up of getting keys cut as they get taken home fm work and neve returned.

what im looking for is something that i can attach to the keys, and will alarm if someone tries to go through the door! bit like if you try take clothes from a store, but obviously on a much smaller a scale

not sure if im pissing in the wind but does anyone know of such a thing or maybe even give me some help in making something?

    thanks peeps.

You could make the person trade the key for their car keys. They won't be going home with it then. Or take all their money if they use public transport

    Crazy,

I presume you have tried a sign in and out process i.e. sign in and collect the key and sign out and return the key....I implemented a system where is a key was lost the replacement costs to replace the suited locks was passed onto the contractor, this worked wonders and was only implemented once after they had learnt their lesson.

Also sounds really basic but you could place big bold signs on the final exit door/route to remind people??

    Good luck

    cheers guys!
keypad not an option and because of the movement of keys during the day from one person to another etc then having signing system wouldnt work either. if there was a set of keys for each person, as opposed to sharing keys, then i guess it would be an option but regulations limit us to x amount of sets!!

with all the technically wizardry on here im sure we could make something couldnt we!?

what most offices do these days is have everyone with a namebadge than operates doors. so everyone can open the front door, then only the IT people can open the server room, only cleaners can get in cleaners cupboards, etc. etc. One place I was at even had a special group who could access the 24 hour helpdesk section, so that some nutter from another part of the company couldnt come in at night and batter the guy on the helpdesk

and its all one electronic key per person and you just set who has access to what.

its an expensive solution, but it means that you can not only limit each area to certain people but you know who has been in those areas - so great for security. and once its in, it could save you a fortune in keys in the future.

and if a key goes missing, it belongs to one guy and he is fucked, so it serves him right.

cheaper option is to do away with keys all together and have combination door locks.

bb...would love to get the master key but we cant get it as the lock company hold them and wont let them out. they actually say there isnt a master key but i dont belive them!

each replacement key costs 20 inc ( lost three sets so far and there is five in a set) most key cutters wont cut the keys as they are embossed with a security number, so many people refered me to the lock manu.

using digi lock isnt allowed, the cupboards store drugs and everythign has to be in compliance with regultions coverin drug storage, hence the high security locks. changing them isnt allowed, nope the only thing that is practical is to try find a way to alert if the keys try to leave.

might take a tip to maplins see if they have any components i could hash together.

What about the thin electro magnetic strips that libraries use ? Loads of companies on google selling these systems. You'd need a scanner on the way out though.

or these babies...http://www.plescon.co.uk/ProductRang...6/Default.aspx attach them to the keyrings.

Not sure if these solutions are are small enough scale for you though.
