personally im a massive fan of the whole surreal look of the hdr photography, and these look amasing.

London from above, at night

With the end of the Olympics in Beijing, all eyes turned for a moment to London, site of the upcoming 2012 Summer Olympics. While looking for good photographs of London, I was contacted by London photographer Jason Hawkes, who had some wonderful images of London, seen from above at night (from a helicopter, to be exact) - some of which which he's agreed to let me share here. From Jason: "Shooting aerial photography during the daytime had its own difficulties, you are strapped tightly into a harness leaning out of the helicopter, shouting directions through the headsets to the pilot. If shooting in the day can be difficult, night and the lack of light causes its own set of problems, but overcoming them is half the fun and the results can be stunning. I shoot at night using the very latest digital cameras, mounted on either one or two gyro stablazied mounts, depending on the format of the camera and length of lens I'm having to use." What I want to know is how he gets sharp long exposure shots from that height???!!!

I can't think of any form of transport that will stop dead still in mid air politely while you bulb it for 30 secs? Unless he has an anti gravity tripod?

Pictures are amazing man it's hard to think of words to say when you look at them just mind blowing.

@neo2810 i dont think they are long exposure m8 otherwise the cars and stuff would be blurry, the hdr photos are built of 3 (or more commonly 5-6 if not even more) photos 1, over exposed,1, under exposed and 1 normal exposure they are all the same photo (either made from raw images youve photographed or jpegs in photoshop) and then combined to give the detail from the over exposed to the under exposed and visa versa which is why the lights are so bright and yet theres lots of detail in the darker areas as well as the bright ares

saying that hes got to be in a helicopter id have thought just to get some of the angles (either that or the london eye is WAY higher than i thought lol)

They have to be from a chopper and my guess is they are one exposure that has been frigged up and down to create the HDR.

hehe Casio, Neo knows what HDR is mate, he's pretty good at it to be honest.
Neo, come on man get with the program, he had a super giant tripod and a big fcuk off step ladder, a wind shield and good hot brew.
