    Attention How to Overclock?

right, ive never overclocked anything before but just got a new pc and was having a look at the bios and there was an option to overclock it

i didnt change anything as i thought it could fk me new pc up!

the pc has been built by someone so isnt OEM

it has a q6600 and 4gb ram, along with an 8800GT, motherboard (according to cpu-z) is an asus rampage formula with an intel x48 chipset (if thats of any help!)

ive heard you can overclock a q6600 to 3GHZ ish so was quite interested, also read that i can overclock me gfx card but not really bothered about that

so how do i do it? what exactly do i need to change in me bios?

the case is a 3D aurora (gigabyte) and it has a massive fan inside (biggest one ive seen!)

thats all the info i can think of but if anything else is needed then i can provide it.

    regards

    yus

Make sure you have adequate cooling!! Basically dont use the stock heatsink that came with the CPU because they are pretty much no good for overclocking.

Get yourself a good heatsink to keep temps as low as possible. If you really want to go all out with your overclocking then you might want to think about water cooling!

i dont think its got the stock heatsink on the cpu, as the stock heatsink is normally a small measly one the size of a rubiks cube right?

as mine has a massive heatsink/fan ontop of the cpu thats as big as err well three times the size of a rubiks cube ish

    or am i wrong?

    regards

Just to let you know the stock cooler with the Q6600 is this one, its not quite a small thing.

this is the unused one that came with my Q6600. which is a very overclockable cpu and has been proved stable at 3.6Ghz with air cooling but I wouldnt go that far myself.

never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups!

    thanks for that pic m8

mine is about twice the size of that lol

im probably gonna leave it at 3ghz as i cant really tell the difference and i dont really use any cpu demanding applications

    cheers
