PS3 Not Reading Any Discs

Hi all,

got another PS3 the other day from an auction, boots up fine, but just will not read any disc at all! Whether its a Bluray movie or a PS3 game. Tried reformatting the drive but still no good. Is there anything I can do to sort it?

ring playstation helpline thing and get it sent back my mates did same thing they just replace them

If it's out of warrenty then all it needs is a new laser

search ebay for them as they don't cost much

How much warrenty do you get with Sony, I havent a clue how old the machine is. Thanks lads

does it takes the disks in ok and spin them up (or is it a loading mechanism problem) ?

Yes mate, takes in the discs fine but nothing appears on screen in DVD or Video etc.

I rang the customer care thing, they said its faulty but their systems down at the mo, they said I can either ring back later and get another sent out to me for Monday or Tuesday...or if their systems dont come back up they can arrange one to be sent out next Friday.

Im just wondering what they'll ask though as I got this PS3 from an auction, will it still be under warrenty?

Laser is fried, standard Sony warranty is 12 months, but if its a US or Jap console it has to go back to Sony America or Sony Japan (respectively).

If out of warranty either buy a laser and fit yourself or pay for http://www.continuousplay.co.uk/

Its only £5 a month and you can cancel at any time, its basically insurance & extended warranty from Sony, so even if you spill something on it, its covered.

You can cancel at any time, at most you will have to pay for 2 months (£10) which is still cheaper than a new laser (about £30).

Also they will replace the whole console at your door, but remember you have to give them 2 weeks notice if you want to cancel.

Well i rang them, and asked when I bought the console. Ddin't really know what to say, i just said i bought it last week preowned from a market. They said I need a receipt and then i can get an exchange, the bloke said I need to fax the receipt over and quote the reference number.

I have the receipt from the auction, with other items on it, will this be good enough you tihink?

i would think they are looking for a ticket so they can confirm its a pal console, thats all. there must be a serial number on it.
they must be able to trace it from that. I would kick up a fuss mate, start asking for their boss, you will get another no worrys

sorted, got another console coming on tuesday I made up a receipt from a receipt book, faxed it over and then rang them. Thanks lads. Just need a controller now lol

When mine broke aven though it was well out of warranty I just made up a date within a year and they replaced no questions asked
