Default TomTom n00b. Quick question.. :)

I'm thinking of buying a TomTom One XL Classic for £129.

Can I download and 'flash' any maps to it? Is it pretty simple to do?
Need France and Spain for now.

Road trip coming on next week!

Sorry if this is an obvious one, I'm guessing yes, just need confirmation really.

With sooo many of these things, I'm not sure which or what to buy!

(Are Garmin Nuvi 600 easy to update too?)

Yes you can, you get the maps in the usual places and have to generate a key from your tomtom serial...

IMHO tomtom is better than garmin

Nevermind, sused it. The Go's got a few more silly gadgets than the One.

Not sure what size SD card you got with yours but you can use up to 2gb.
Also I would recommend getting Western Europe map if you have the space, means you do not have to keep changing.

Any further help on this would be appreciated.

I now have my Sat Nav (One XL Classic) plugged in via USB. It shows it as a seperate drive with just under a GB of space on it. Can I just copy the Map across via USB instead of doing it via SD Card? I havent one big enough for the map to load to it.

Also, can I just drag the entire contents from the 'TomTom' drive to back it up onto my Desktop?

    --EDIT--
Ultimately, I need toi put GB, France and Spain on this thing if anyone can assist. Downloading the maps is not the problem, getting them to the dam thing is! lol

I hate reviving old threads; but did you ever get this sorted DejaVu?

I need to add the latest maps to an XL Classic.

Lurking for 5 years then leeching/boosting, should have kept your head down as you're not in the UK anyway. . .

Most (if not all) of the TTOne range didn't have sd cards - depending what version you have and how techy you are its possible to solder an sd card socket internally and use that - I did it on an old v3 TTOne and it worked well
