Help with Dell laptop please

hi guys
i need some help plz
i was fixing a friends laptop and i wiped it clean with bootnnuke and installed a fresh copy
of xp which all went fine but the drivers i downloaded from dell only half will work on the laptop.
i want to connect to the internet to use driver updater or something to get all the drivers i need but
i cant get an internet connection to do so.
the laptop is a (dell latitude d600)
any help would bre great guys

Download:Unknown Device Identifier 6.01

Install it.

Find out exactly what hardware is in the machine (i.e network cards etc)

Go on a driver hunt at dell or other sites.

i used unknown device identifier spennyboy but i dont see what im ment to do with this
ok it shows me what i have installed but what am i ment to do with it ?

ive checked device manager and the only thing that is highlighted yellow is called
(dell truemobile 1400 dual band wlan mini-pci card)
i think maybe this is the only thing thats stopping me connecting to the net.
i got broadcom (570x gigabit integrated controller) installed

looks like you run it then right click and select find driver...i would assume you need to be connected to internet though but you could try doing that through a network..

if i could get it connected to the internet i would be ok
when i put ethernet lead in i get nothing but if i take it out it says
network cable unpluged

go to dell.com/support and type in your service tag, it will come up with the drivers needed for your system.

sorry if this sounds daft but by service tag do you mean dell latitude d600
cuz ive downloaded every driver i could of dell and tried installing them all

the service tag will be something like xxx000xxx, which you might find in the bios if the sticker has gone.

I typed in service tag and it told me the drivers i need and they all look the same as the drivers i downloaded ? Should i download these drivers and try them again
and each driver that says its already installed just cancel and keep going to see if theres something i aint got

ALSO SHOULD I ONLY DOWNLOAD THE URGENT AND RECOMMENDED DRIVERS AND LEAVE OUT THE OPTIONAL DRIVERS

try em again - what version have you got? 4.10.40.11?

Dont know mate cant see anything to say weather its 4.10 or 40.11

go to device manager, properties of the dell truemobile 1400 and then go to the "driver" tab. it should list the version number on there.
It should also tell you which version on the dell site

Done what you said mate and it says under driver
driver version 4.10.40.11

ALSO DELL TRUEMOBILE 1400 DUAL BAND WLAN MINI-PCI CARD IS NOT HIGHLIGHTED YELLOW ANYMORE.
THERE IS NO DRIVERS HIGHLIGHTED AT ALL BUT I STILL CANT GET A CONNECTION TO THE NET.
