PS3 Sony: Home is a jaw-dropping experience, still coming November

Sony: Home is a jaw-dropping experience, still coming November

Jack Tretton, the President and CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment of America (SCEA), has again confirmed that the Playstation Home Open Beta will launch this November. It was back in November 2007 that Kaz Hirai (Chairman and CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment) stated he was not satisfied with Home. Nearly a year on, Tretton says that home is a "jaw-dropping experience". "You become part of a living community with an avatar you can customise and your own 3D apartment, it’s a world unlike anything you’ve ever seen. I think it will be another part of our ecosystem, adding social networking and a connective tissue to the experience." he said.

Although Sony may say its a "jaw dropping experience", beta users say its "shite".

Lots of potential though, so we'll see...

Its only seems shite because we been on it for so long.

When you look at it for what is, it is actually pretty amazing. Esp. since its all free and going to become more and more robust!

yeah, i was on the home beta forums the other day looking at screenines and things and it does look pretty dam good.

Not sure how much of the 'social networking' side of things many people will use though,, there were complaints already in the forums of 'sexual harrassment' because someone changed there avatar to a female form everyone was mesaging 'her'

    Like mIRC 10 year ago!

it does looks the dogs... but i have my doubts.. i'm no into 'virtual weddings' (homes first wedding took place last month) sad bastards.
i'd give my left arm to be ambidextrous

Sony would hardely say "it's shite" would they

They are just trying to jump on the social networking bandwagon. Bit late imo as interest in social networking sites is starting to fall according to recent reports - although that could be a PR stunt too.

If it's free I'll install it, create my avatar, walk around a bit and then remove it. Not really my thing.

Has anyone tried Second Life on the PC? Kind of a similar deelie and that's huge - shame that's crap too.

I think that's the problem... Lots of people will "try" it... once... Can't see me using it more than to show my mates what Home is all about. I prefer killing things and unless you can kill other gamers in it in a horrible, horrible way (maybe with blunt spoons), I'm not really interested. Might as well be playing cards in my local At least that way you get to meet real people instead of a 40 year old bloke calling himself "Janice16"

V1.00 of HOME will enter closed beta testing within the fortnight. 'Loyal' PS3 users will recieve invites to test 1.00 and once that is done expect the open beta to launch within a couple of weeks via a firmware update (probably 2.60) around early December. Anytime between December 3rd-11th is my guess.
