I think it's good, we don't have cable or $ky so this is IMO the next best thing. The recording works well, you can record whole series, never paid for OD content but there's a good selection of it.
Not sure what package we have though.
I recommend it too. I'm in an area where I can not install a dish or have the road dug up for Virgin. So BT Vision was the next best thing.
It upscales well to 720p, the TV replay feature is cool. If I forget to record something I can generally find it on there for free.
I am on the £14 a month package which comes with Free Setanta. I took the Max Broadband package and I am paying less than I was on Sky for the same package.
The box does have some issues, a few times it down res'd to SD again?? I think this is after a software update though.
I didn't like the HUB though (New Black One). It wouldn't let me host my website even though it allows you to open Port 80?? Flashed my Old $ky Netgear one and it all works fine

I have the old homehub and surprisingly (I was gobsmacked) it is the best wireless router I have ever had. Incredibly rarely do I have a problem with it and thats always solved by powering it off then on. Whereas my linksys, netgear, and belkin routers prior to this all had problems weekly.
It seemed ok, it was just the fact I could not Open port 80 to successfully host a website.
Anyhow, it answers the question that BT Vision will work with any Router (providing you are on BT).
My $ky Netgear has been rock solid for over 2 years now

thanks buddy gona give it a go
gotta say i found this as well i was with bt and had the homehub and it was rock solid only thing that it had a problem with was plugging in a hard drive to share it over the network it was usb 1.0 so it was slow as the speed of smell now ive gone to be* and the router theyve given me seems to fallover once or twice a week and need to be power cycled (although im thinking of getting a linksys adsl2+ to sort this out)
The officall anwser you will get from BT is that Vision only supports the homehub.
Actually as others have said it will work with most routers providing their compatable with BT Broadband.
However if the router does not feature QOS (If its not the homehub and it does feature QOS it would have to be manually setup to proritise the vision traffic if you wanted to do so) it's possible that doing something that's heavy on the upload may cause the VOD to stutter and break up.
Basically they will only gurantee the quality of service when using the Homehub so if you have one might be worth keeping it to one side just in case you have to call them out for a fault on the Vbox.
All that said I never had a problem using my vision with a voyager 2110, since changed ISP so the Vbox is just a doorstop at the moment.
Quite interested in the progress of hacking the box, would be excellent if someone could turn it into a network media player.
an xbox1 is cheaper and just as if not more competant as a network media player if you put xbmc on it
Not when one has the Vbox already it's not
Besides i do have a PPC mac mini running linux an xbox360 and a PS3 available to me (connected to the TV)
It's just i got this piece of kit sitting there that's perfectly functional (or it would be if it wasnt down to a software restriction on it)
thanks for all your replies just found out i cant get it cant see why not but entered phone number etc to order came up saying it available in my area but i to far from exchange so how come i can get broadband from them
what speed broadband are you getting? cos if its pretty slow theyre probably saying it cos you wouldnt be able to download enough stuff on demand (basically you'd cost them)
either that or you got an advisor who didnt care (i was one of these for bt lol) try ringing back and say the advisor put you on hold and then you got cut off while trying to place an order, if its not the speed of your line and it was the advisor you'll get one and even if it is the speed of your line then just try your luck
the only way you cant get it is if your line aint fast enough has to be over 2meg if it is phone em up on 0800800900

well when i did a line check prior to ordering broadband they sais 6 meg but i think im only getting 2 meg gona do a check now
test said 2meg
check your wiring and filters cos if your close enough to the exchange to get higher and your not then it could be a noisy line (try plugging your router directly in to the test port on the master socket and run another speed test if its quicker you know its your internal wiring if not 2mb's the fastest your gonna get)
When they do the tests you will see it go up/down. They basically give you it at the most stable speed.

hi thanks again it is plugged straight into master socket so i take it 2meg na good for bt vision read a reply saying need a min of 2 meg
?? You should be ok?

if 2mb is the minimum then you should be ok, either that or buy one off ebay for £30ish (maybe cheaper) and sidestep bt all together lol
