new wii, which mod
guys, i have just got a new wii, now i just have a few questions,
1. What chip do i install, as all i will be doing is playing backups? but need an easy way of updating the firmware to the chip.
2. Can i still play online with a backup in the drive?
By the way, dont mind soldering, as i did loads of chipping in the early xbox days, lol, just been out the game for a few years now.
thanks
Re: new wii, which mod
Wiigator softmod FTW!
Re: new wii, which mod
read the stickies, there's no current clear advantage of chipping your wii. mine is chipped and I use the softmod
Re: new wii, which mod
My current Favourite is the D2Sun, 7 wire mode. Soldered....I stay well clear of wii clips.
However you might find when you open it up that its covered in epoxy resin, which is not pleasant to remove.
Ive not really looked into the softmod scene....as soon as I saw there was a "compatability list" I figured i'd stick with mod chips......maybe its 100% now like a chip.....I think I read the latest wii firmware causes problems with the softmod doesnt it ?

Re: new wii, which mod
i would say d2pro personally, they are an established mod with decent support.

softmod all the way. Compatability is good and speeds are better with new loader.
Re: new wii, which mod
i think im just got the wiikey..?? anygood.. got it because of the dvd upgrade option
Re: new wii, which mod
i hear good things about the new Wiikey 2 v2 (yellow serial label), 6 wire mod, and very stable on the D2E wiis.
Re: new wii, which mod
I've got a D2E machine running an Argon chip with 2.2 software and it's pretty sweet

The new Wiikey 2 v2 (yellow serial label), 6 wire or less.simple to update with a DVD
Re: new wii, which mod
SoftMod all the way.
As long as you run the Backup Loader 0.3 gamma then you shouldn't have a problem.
It just works
