News Nokia N97 Mini Review Inc Pics

Ok sorry its late guys a mini review on the N97, First a few photos

    Full tech specs here https://europe.nokia.com/find-produc...specifications

Ok my first impressions after using for the last few days its lot better than the early prototype's that were around. Will try and cover each area but if i miss anything just ask.

    Display:-
Very clear clarity , touch screen responsive far better then the 5800 IMO, Vibrate when pressing the keys seems to make it feel more like the storm display than a 5800 very slick . Screen sits slightly lower than edges so should aid minimizing scratches when putting in and out of pocket but not to the point where crap collects around the edge !!

Touch & Feel:- alot like some of the HTC products smooth plastic rear comes round to meet the chassis that the screen hinge is mounted with top part of this feeling like an ipod/iphone and not at all plastic even though it is unlike the 5800. Not to sure on the disply slide feels a little plastic but is sturdy unlike those that are used to the N95 wobbles

Web Browsing:- Great on O2 and with 3G coverage which i have in my house can watch streaming video just as when on wifi, screen tilts to just the right angle for watching. Flicking between full screen and standard scrren size works really well also

Camera:- Fast startup much 200% quicker than the N95 and other Nokias not waiting ages for the Lens to take the photo, video quality also good with the touchscreen making it really easy to use rather than the navi keys when in these modes.

Very different phones IMO however the N97 is far superior in terms off specification weight not alot in it iphone is slightly lighter.

Bearing in mind N97 is 32gb then pricing will be pretty similar on a retail price point but trade price then N97 will have the edge over 32gb iphone.

However interface on the iphone is easier to use so imo it will come down to which one your a fanboy of.

Apple better looks, slightly thinner but wider but with better UI with more applications
Nokia is more powerful, but if used to Nokia you will find it easy so it is too close to call

Thanks for the input. Last question (pfft)-

Whats the video cam like? I used to love the quality of the cam on the N95!

Also has MAPS improved since the n95?

Does Tomtom/garmin work on it?(Im sure there was a working copy for the 5800)

Camera great and video is super smooth as well, Maps is much better now even on E71 over the original version running maps 2.0 wk16.

Not tried tomtom yet and hate garmin but will try tomtom later on and also mcguider which is my prefered nav program anyway at the min

Yep true symbian is looking dated imo and apple seem to be listening.

After 17 years of owning Nokias i might well be moving on to iphone 3gs

I didn't think O2 were going to do the N97 because they weren't happy about the Skype side of things, same as Orange.

I quite fancy this phone and have done since the first info was released. I'm now due an upgrade, 2 in fact as I pay for the wife's contract. I'll be having words with T-Mobile nearer the 1st July to see what deal if any they can do for me. If O2 are going to be doing it then I may consider them as that will make by Broadband £9 odd a month.

Where from and what do you get for your £24.50? Not a lot I'm guessing.
