Default Installing OSX on a PC?

Ive seen a few guides online about installing OSX on a PC.

Anyone on here done it? Was going to give it a shot for a play about.

    Asus P5N-E SLI 650i Mobo
    nVidia 8800GT
    Q6600
    3GB DDR2 667Mhz

How would it run in comparison to a similar iMac? I'd be using it with my Dell 24" display.

    Any feedback appreciated.

hackintosh's are good machines but can be fussy on components.

Do a search on google for hackintosh machines.

traditionally the closest to mac chipsets were always the easiest to get working properly.

intel cpu, intel chipset, gma900 graphics, broadcomm wireless etc etc. there are workarounds to get loads of bits of kit working however loads of the stuff dotted about the web is now out of date.

Check the wiki's for hardware compatibility and make sure its for the version of osx that you are looking at using.

Well I tried this morning and had no luck, I think its a combination of having an nforce chipset and no option for AHCI.

I'm advertising my PC for an iMac... Wonder if anyone will swap.

Hmm seems apple is doing something right.. I too am leaving the windows realm

Been playing with my mate brand new macbook pro for an hour today and although its allback to fron and upside onw, it seems to just do stuff right.

I tried running OSX on my PC setup too, installed and would boot to the OSX logo then hang.

I have a dell XPS laptop for sale.. 6 months old

Do you really need the Pro? unless it's for audio or video production it's worth considering a Macbook, the intel ones are very quick!

I use my XPS at present for cs3 and design stuff - Adobe tend to make hungry programs..

    Bloody pricey though...

thats the black friday discounts in the us m8 i dont think we'll get the same savings, also think on macworld is in jan so anything you buy now (with the exclusion of the mbp and the updated mb) could be up for a refresh in 2 months (mac mini is my bet and the obligatory ipod)
