Default Trying to decide what sports car to hire ....

    Hi..

    Help me out guys..

I am planning to take a driving trip around scotland from Edinburgh to glasglow via inverness I am going to be driving every day for 7 days...

    I have the choice of..

    Lotus Elise s 160

    Honda NSX

Or a Porche boxster semi auto...

I can't decide what one to go for the elise will be fun but getting in and out and putting the roof on and off could be a pain...the NSX is comfatable but suppose to be a boring to drive and the porche is semi-auto..

    What do you people think..

Honda NSX, great looking car and rare bird. You could probably get to drive the others anytime but there can't be that many NSX` about still.

(I have drove the other 2 but not an NSX so im not speaking from experience - just what I would chose)

Im sure it'll be a ding-dong whichever you chose.

I thought the nsx drove like a boring regular honda if you were chilling out, but was a proper loon if you put your foot down?

(Another NOT speaking from experience - but wasn't that how the motoring press described it?)

Again from no real driving experience, but isn't it the same with every VTEC?

Yep it is VTEC not sure when it kicks in on the NSX

Now not comparing a NSX to a Civic VTI - but I had a VTI and it was gutless out of vtec - but in vtec you were hiting national spped limit very quick...

Now I am going to be driving around little scottish land in a hired sports car with £2000 excess so I am definately not going to take chances - I just can't imagine getting into the VTEC zone and unleashing the 280 horses or if I do I am going to be stressing about smacking it up..

Originally I was going to hire their TVR 4.0 Chimra but thats now being sold - then they offered me a S2000 but thhat got smacked up last week

This is why I like the idea of the elise small light fun with out going stupid - but guessing it might be uncomfatable and a pain in the arse..

I reckon I might just put the whole thing on hold...

i hope its not one of those ompanies that hire it through credit card and days after you hand it back you get a huge bill for things like wear on tyres paint chips etc

was hoping to hire something like a ferrari for my daughters prom but scared of the huge bill at the end,

anyone know about this type of hire?

    I'd go for the Boxter.

Will they not let you look/sit in/test them before you hire?

    Carrera 4 - is that the 930 shape (70'/80's) or 964 (90's)?

Reason being I've always wanted a 930 shape turbo convertible on look alone, so that would probably be my choice. Don't know how transferrable my reasoning is though

If I could own any of those it would be the NSX but i'm a JDM nerd. I would imagine that the Boxter would be best for this as it would sound good, they look quite cool and won't feel cheap like the Lotus would. Like you said, you aint going to be ragging it around at risk of losing your deposit. I would stay clear of the 90's 911 as it would look and feel a bit old.

What car do you drive on a daily basis? If you have a nice car then go for whats most different to your daily driver?

another vote for the NSX here. Great car. The elise would be fun for 1 day but you really dont want to be in one for 7 days your arse will be dead. They are great toys but not practical everyday cars. The porsche boxster nice motor but would have the nsx over it anyday. 911 carrera would be tempting but id still go for the NSX.

Oh at the moment I have a 106 diesel - However I did have a very nice Civic VTi but found it flat out of Vtec range so I changed that for a 300 BHP modded to the hilt 200SX - but they are both long gone..

I suppose I am more into JDM then Germans so maybe stil the NSX..

If you are a JDM man then i'd say go for the NSX. There will still be times when you can redline it in 2nd and 3rd and the handling is supposed to be superb so even at low speeds you should appreciate the handling. Plus if you have had a modified 200sx then you should be fine with it being a little tail happy

Whatever you get take some pics and post them

    N.........S.........X FTW!!

If your coming up this way mate and going to Inverness then take it easy on the back roads, as I have said in another thread I crashed my Evo V on the back roads a few weeks ago. Today my boss called in to say he wasn't going to be in because he wrote-off his Scooby STi Pro-drive. His car was a mess, chassis bent and all!

So take the NSX, but be VERY careful up here at this time of year! Esp now that they are only putting out 1 gritter this year opposed to the 5 or 6 they had out last year!
