Xbox 360 Anyone still stream WMV-HD via 360?

Getting a new plasma this week and contemplating getting a blu-ray player/PS3 or not.

I only really want it for Dark Knight as i hear its pretty awesome.

then i remembered the WMV-HD rips that are available on newsgroups, found dark knight 1080p wmv, so downloading it now.

is the rip as good as the blu ray disk?

I have no blu-ray to compare against but I downloaded that very HDWMV DK rip the other week and streamed across my 360 through to a 42" Sammy and it looked the nuts

Get yaself one of those mate, I use it to stream everything from WMV to MKV and it plays them perfectly without a hitch............. Dar Knight is completely awesome in HD, The sound is stunning, I had the 1080P Blu-Ray rip but it was an MKV and not a WMV

I had the same release as Fincher. I used to get WMVHD stuff and it played perfectly well on the 360. They tend to not be quite as good as the scene MKVs but to be honest I don't think most people would notice unless they are looking for it

On the subject of MKV's I swear back in the day the 360 would play .ts and .mkv files... I can't seem to get it to stream these file formats any more, only WMV-HD...

    Anyone else notice this?

360 has never supported MKV or TS - unless you use Windows Media Centre edition with the Transcode360 plugin.

I remember downloading Gladiator 1080i in .ts format and playing it via streaming... Pah, ah well, WMV-HD will have to do (can't stand that crappy Media Centre crap)

Actually .TS is an MPEG elementary stream so you "should" be able to rename it and it will play but I don't know about compatibility with it. Also .TS files are usually huge.

i could not tell the difference between blueray rip and 1080p MKV, both look great, but as said before get your self a popcorn hour you wont regret it, i didnt and its women friendly.

I have just gone back over xmas to streaming WMV to 360 rather than MKV through my PC because of the hastle with codecs and the Mrs and kids not being able to play MKV as easy, my PC could only just handle 720p MKV's and needed lots of love and tinkering to do that. And now my boys have just got a 360 on a HD telly in their room for xmas it was a no brainer for me.
I have both versions of the DK and in my opinion the WMV of the Dark Knight 1080p WMV looks better than the X264 720p version on my 50" HD Pioneer720p
The only hastle is with WMVHD is finding them without hard coded dutch subs on Newzbin so dug out an old link to http://prettyboo.com which has loads of WMVHD movies without hard coded subs and they also have there own scene releases.
I find that there used to be a big differnce between the quality of WMV and MKV and that is why I started watching MKV but the WMV's I watched over xmas on the 360 hardly looked any different to the MKV's I already had of the same films. Maybe this is because they are being ripped straight from Bluray sources If I remember all the origional WMV's were TV rips.

I play any and all formats on my PC through VLC/WMP onto my 42".
Used to have problems with skipping on 1080 stuff but not since I upgraded.
I also notice that my 360 does not recognise a HFS+ formatted disk anymore, but FAT32 is fine, this is after the NXE Update, so it`s kind of pointless using the 360 anymore as what HD films are < 4Gb!

Good site too Mooncat - cheers!

bit off topic but i third the popcorn hour

i also used to look for wmv-hd files to play on my 360 but they're very thin on the ground, plus as said they're hard to get without hardcoded dutch subs:-/

so i then spent 400 quid building an all singing all dancing media pc, that i spent more time installing/uninsatlling codecs than actually watching .mkv's.

then i sold all that and got myslef a popcorn hour never looked back so easy and hassle free i surprised everyone hasn't got one

i don't work for them either btw

My 360 with nxe dash still plays files off my external HD formatted with macdrive.
Weirdly though, it's 40GB and I've just tried another one which is 80GB but the 360 refuses to see it!
