Default What Lens to hire for a trip to Scotland..

    Hi..

I planning a trip to scotland in June next year I know it's a long way off but I want to reserve some lens for hire..

I going to Hire the new 5D MKII and I was thinking of the following lens..

    Canon EF 14mm f/2.8 L II USM
    Canon EF 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6 L IS USM
Canon EF 400mm f/4.0 DO IS
    And a
Canon Extender EF 2.0 x II

Basically Hiring a Honda NSX and touring from Edinburgh to Glasgow Via Inverness

What do think are these good choice ?

It will all depend on what your are shooting mate. Personally, if it were just holiday style snaps with a few arty farty ones thrown in for good measure then I would go for:-

    Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8 L II USM
    Canon EF 24-105mm f/4 L IS USM
    Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 L IS USM

And I would not bother with the extender, I have a Sigma 2x and very rarely use it unless it's for surf shots. As it kills the lens by two stops. Ouch.
Don't forget the 5d is a full frame sensor so no crop factor to take into account. So a 10mm on my 40d would in reality be a 16mm lens (Crop factor is 1.6) So the 16mm on the first lens will be super wide angle for some nice panoramic shots, having a f2.8 is not a problem and you should be shooting on a tripod and need apertures of around F/8 to f/22. The 24-105 is an amazing lens and is on my want list, it's focal length is spot on for every day use and it's an L series lens so superb quality. And if you really need a long telephoto lens then a 100-400 is just right as it has IS and is L glass again so very high quality.

Inc postage and ins that would set you back £146 for the week from Lensesforhire.co.uk Where as your thoughts would be £212.87 plus the extender is only good for use on the 400mm

Hope that helps mate. Out of interest where are your hiring the 5dMkII from??
