Stupid Vista install / graphics card problem

Hi all. Let me again preface this with saying when it comes to operating systems I am a totally dumbfuck, so please assume the lowest level of ability when answering this

OK, I installed a fresh copy of Vista on the kids PC last night, overwriting an install of XP. Installed fine, except I am now stuck at looking at VGA graphics on an 8bit card and cant see how the hell to change it. Its all "standard VGA monitor" and no other options to select. Clearly this is totally unusable, and before I reinstall XP, I was wondering if any of you savvy people could point me in the right direction of how to fix this.

    Cheers

Did you install VISTA drivers for your graphics card?

Have you done the vista updates? That usually picks my cards up and automatically installs the drivers - if not whip the case open and have a look at what card is in it and download them manually.

The version I have includes all the updates upto the end of last month. Looks like I need to open the box then

It may have all the vista updates but when it goes online it should search for any missing drivers via the vista online update, I think that is what it does anyway I installed one the other day that was supposed to be up to date but it still had to download drivers for my graphics card.
