    Attention update warning

Just to warn people about the new update.
New update comming out 3.4 removes custom channels and stops homebrew from working

    http://www.wiibrew.org/wiki/Main_Page

update seems doesnt stop homebrew channel or softmod from working but stops the twilight hack being used to install the channel

Chances are they hate you anyway...

If you're using a chip then the latest update doesn't really effect you - but don't take my word for it.

Or just follow the nice info posted elsewhere on here and downgrade to 3.2 if you have accidentally upgraded

I have a PAL wii with an argon with v1.8 f/w which is wired so that it works with all 3 region backups. I have a backup of Animal Crossing USA which asks for an update which is presumably NTSC when I put the disc in. Can I update or bypass this to get the game working. Thanks

There is a new twilight hack available just for 3.4E. You copy it across as normal and then do the usual trick and you can install the homebrew channel. Once rebooted the hack is deleted but the HBC remains. I assume you will then be able to install IOS16 with wad loader 1.3 and then use the IOS16 version of wad installer 1.3 to perform a CIOS downgrade before using IOS downgrader to install 3.2E as 3.3E is the oct 23rd update and you'd be daft to install 3.3E.

I can't try this out as i have a modchip but it worked for the 3.3E oct 23rd update i did for a mate.

Don't install an NTSC update onto a PAL machine!!!!!!!

If it's a disc you've downloaded and burnt yourself then use WiiBrickBlocker to patch the image and burn a new copy to use. That will patch the disc (works on all regions) so it doesn't give you any update option and you can play the game as normal

If you use gecko os you can or you an apply a patch to the iso before you burn so that it doesn't update.

Edit: looks like people have answered the question better than me already

OK I've patched the image with wiibrickblocker and burned it to disk. The game initially loads without the update but then goes to a black screen. Do I need to update the argon firmware or is this one of the games that might benefit from installing the homebrew channel (which I don't fully understand anyway). If someone can point me in the right direction then I will search the answer out. Thanks

what version is your wii it may be that the game actually requires one of the ios in the update

just to add if it does then you need to get the ios by using a pal update or by downloading the ios. DO NOT use the ntsc update to get it

By version I take it you mean the firmware on the wii. All I know is that I downloaded an update from the Nintendo site about 3 weeks ago but all my backups still work apart from mariokart and animal crossing. Just had a look and its version 3.3E

On the Wii Settings page there is a number in the top right corner of the screen that will tell you the version (3.3E or 3.4E etc.)

A lot of the USA games don't play properly on PAL Wii's - but they play fine if you get the homebrew channel installed and use GeckoOS to launch the disc

OK cheers, I'll do a search on homebrew channel and see what it comes up with. I'm running version 3.3E on the wii.

Ok - if you leave it as 3.3E then you'll have to get a copy of Zelda - The Twilight Princess to install the Homebrew channel - A downloaded copy will do - doesn't have to be original as you have a Modchip.

Alternatively you could follow the instructions on another thread in this section and downgrade your firmware to 3.2E - then all you need to do is download the install .iso image from the homebrew channel homepage, burn it to disc and install it from that

    Good luck
