Xbox 360 HD Drive

i was looking to get a hd drive for the 360
and everywhere as sold out (obviously) because of bluray
so i was wondering if there is any one that may have a spare one
that they wouldnt mind selling??

bluray and hddvd are two different technologies. You cannot ever watch a bluray movie with the XBox HDDVD drive.

The drive or the films?! I can't imagine anywhere stupid enough to sell the drive for that cheap! Although it is possible. If it is the drive buy them all mate and sell sell sell!

Going rate is £40-50 on ebay. I paid £90 odd after my mates currys discount, this was last december when the drives were £100, I bought it for the 5 free HD-DVD promo to find the month after the drive dropped to £35 and the films to sub £10

Try Gamestation - they were flogging them cheap in Milton Keynes along with the movies a few weeks ago. I picked up a bundle of HDDVD flicks for £20

dont bother the quality isnt great i had one and sold it, much better option is to download .wmv format films, there hd and play through your drive on the actual xbox and look as good as the hd drive player.

save some cash, just burn ,wmv to dl discs,


best option unless you have loads of hddvd's already and need a player.

I'm confused by your statement on the quality not being great.. Do you mean the build quality or the movie quality. I don't have an xbox hddvd drive - I have a Tosh player and it's awesome. I have disks on bluray and HD and can't tell the difference. I'm using a Panasonic full HD plasma and both players are hooked up over HDMI. I know people with the HDDVD drive and they say it is fine but I haven't seen one playing any movies.

I use the 360 HD Drive and it looks as good as any BluRay Player granted now the format is in the demise no new movies are coming out on the format.
However I have managed to pick up some major bargains on discs including Blade Runner, Transformers and Planet Earth to name a few all from my local Game Station.

the drive is built ok, its the movies played on it thats not great, dont get me wrong they are hd and look good but not as good as i have seen, hence not great statement, i wasnt knocking the drive or quality per say but its not as good as i have seen and its on a par with a downloaded wmv in the normal drive.

the movies i can download in wmv format and play in the xbox itself look as good, money down the drain if you ask me even if they are cheap now, the xbox 360 internal drive handle hd perfectly well, theres rips of hddvd and blueray in wmv format, just burn them to dl disc and put it in your xboxes internal drive.

i had the xbox hddvd drive and sold it after downloading a wmv format film, they looked the same to me so i sold the drive for 100 quid this was before the demise of hddvd. ive not looked back since, i want to watch a hd movie on my xbox i download one in wmv format, i dont do it much these days though as i have a hd sat setup and i watch my movies on that.

PC World still have some here and there for £29.97. I reserved one in Northampton a week ago but couldn't be bothered to go and get it. Just checked again, none in stock in that area now but you may get lucky.

i picked one up from pc world for 30 quid about 2 months ago, gamestation were selling films at 4.99, now at 3.99 lol, every time i get paid i just buy 5 or 6 and will keep doing so until they dissapear off the shelves

I personally thought the 360's HD DVD drive was excellent quality.. maybe even a fraction better than the PS3's blu-ray. Shame it didn't last longer.
I have one with about 6 or 7 films. It's been packed away now cos I have no more room left for extra gadgets lol. I didn't think they'd be worth selling. but if they're fetching near £50 I might stick it on ebay
