    Default BT Vision Multiroom

    Hi all,

Ive had a read through several posts etc, but cant seem to answer my questions so thought id ask...

Im looking at setting up a BT Vision for multiroom use, simlar to skys... Can this be done?

Can a BT Vision box be used as a stand alone PVR for Freeview only? Still using the Pause/Record/Rewind functions?

Ive recently been given a few BT vision boxes to play with, so think ill be digging deeper into there workings....

BT Vision offer Setanta sports FREE, do you still need a card for this? Does the Setanta come via terestrial ariel or via the BT ADSL hub?

Lastly ive been emailed some info regarding IP address edits, before I start playing, has anyone else used the IP settings to open up the boxes?

Looking forward to the replies, and ill try keep this post updateed with my findings...

At last i think ive found something to keep me busy on these cold nights....oh and while im at work too....lol

Cant answer all your questions but hope this helps,

Setanta is delivered via Freeview and decoded using a card, there are some on demand Setanta bits and bobs that you get with the subscription, but the main channel isnt streamed.

It wont work as a standalone freeview box unless you have a valid BT Vision subscription, it needs a handshake of sorts in order to boot up if that makes sense, no sub = no use

Cancelled my Bt Vision sub this week and within 2 days was gone and wont boot up, so talking from recent experience.

Hope you get the multiroom side of things sorted, and have a search around for Iso Mick's posts - very interesting and may eventually help you out

Might want to delete one of your posts mate

So you need to get a card to use setanta? I am on BT option 3 so get vision for free but I don't think Setanta is free for me, I did see posters saying it should be in town though.

Aye it is free, you have to pay a 1 off fee of a tenner for the card but as long as your bt vision sub is £14 a month or more then you get Setanta 1 and the Setanta replay pack for free, sorry didnt realise about the posts, its the frustratingly slow BT connection that made me rehit the post button

i have a vision box in each of my lounge and my bedroom. They work fine. I got the second one on ebay for 20 quid about 6 months ago. Every now and again they mysteriously reset their settings but for all i know this may be software upgrades not a conflict.

But do it. Its cheaper than setting up a sender plus its HD!

So to clear this up, are both boxes connected to the Internet? Do you get your subscribed channels on both boxes?

My box resets every now and then and I put it down to Software updates.

when they both reset do you loose the recordings?

These boxes only become live when they have a LAN connection to them, does anyone know a way round this? just to make it a standard freeview box without the on demand stuff?

Im going to try set up a couple in different rooms over the xmas break... ill post back and let you all know how i get on.... Might even have several boxes going cheap if people are interested . . .

    Already did that,
all of the objects are sent / received in a soap envelope which is then encrypted.

If you disassemble the ClientAuthenticationSoapHttpProtocol you can remove the overides to it will send / accept plain xml soap responses.

If you want to log what a live box sends / receives you can mod the following classes.

    Microsoft.TV2.Client.ClientAuthentication.IPTVClientAuthHttpWebRequest
    Microsoft.TV2.Client.ClientAuthentication.IPTVClientAuthHttpWebResponse
    Microsoft.TV2.Crypto.AuthenticatorEncryptStream.cs
    Microsoft.TV2.Crypto.AuthenticatorDecryptStream.cs

you can then log the decrypted output as xml files to disk or whatever.

One of the main problems is that the server does a lot of the control work, such as scheduling the recordings, and generating the epg, so this would either need to be written into the boxes application, or on a "server emulator" which could even run on the box using 127.0.0.1: port and have the box connect to it locally.
