    Default Bike Charger

So still trying to sort out holiday to book my DAS but in the mean time my CBR600 as sat in the garage for 3 months and the battery is now dead. I understand you can buy a trickle charger that can be left on charging for months at a time for instance all winter if the bike is not used. Is this right?

Also what's the best one to get ?

Saw a Optimate 4 Battery Charger, any good ? or are others better ?

Yeah the optimate is a good one, although there are quite a few similar ones around now. I've got a datatool one that does it, but from the little i've heard the optimates are very good for bringing batteries back from the brink.

That said, if the batteries proper knackered then nothing will help.

Also, in this weather the cold will kill it fast. Remove the battery and bring it inside while not in use.

yip they either crocodile clip to the battery terminals or you can get a lead that fastens to the battery permantly and a plug sits under the rear seat....they are brilliant

    Yeah no bother.
Should be a case of unclipping the seat to expose the battery. Most bikes have a strap fastening the battery in place to stop it flying all over the place when you've got your knee down

Unclip the strap or fastening and then its just a case of unscrewing the terminal leads.
Take off the negative (black) first and then the red positive.

The battery should then lift clean out. As bodman says, use the fittings that come with the optimate and in future you can hook up the charger really easy without even going near the battery.

If I recall correctly my CBR has two bolts holding the seat on - towards the rear. You have to unclip the side panels to access them, and then the battery is in a little well with 2x M6 bolts holding the terminals on. I had an optimate and it savedthe battery untill I laid the bike up for absolutely ages (That and the fact that the bike - and battery are now 14 years old).
