Default BBC Sports Personality 2008: the DF vote

So, after succesfully predicting the sports personality award for 2007, the time has rolled around again, so lets see who DF thinks will win the award this year.

Personally I think Lewis Hamilton will walk it. I would LIKE to see Ben Ainslie win it - gold medals at 3 (I think) successive Olympic games, preceeded by a silver, and a strong gold medal candidate for London (Weymouth) 2012, if this was rowing he would be Sir Ben Ainslie by now. Then again, there is no doubt in my mind that Chris Hoy deserves serious recognition for what he has brough to cycling in this country - not only has he won loads of gold medals at more than one Olympic games, he's made cycling into the high profile sport it now is. Yes, there were fore-runners in the likes of Boardman, but Hoy is the man for me.

I've left the voting to be able to choose more than 1 candidate, as there are 3 people who get placed awards, so lets see if we can get it right this year

They should rename it "sportsperson of the year" not personality, as from interviews, etc. it would appear Lewis Hamilton or Andy Murray don't have much of one.

Its Calzaghe or Hoy for me. Voted Calzaghe.

Hamilton for me. He managed to win the championship despite all that crap that the FIA threw at him.

If there's any justice and if the British public have any sense it will be Calzaghe.

I'd like to see Calzaghe or Hamilton win it. I can't stand Andy Murray if he wins I hope he falls over on stage and breaks his legs.

The problem is we know it wont be Calzaghe it'll no doubt be Hamilton or Hoy.

It would be ironic if Hamilton won ahead of Calzaghe. Boxing is the purest sporting contest there is, while F1 is the antithesis of this.

Last year he was without a doubt the right winner, I even phoned up and voted for him as I was convinced Hamilton would win it, and it was damn good to see someone win it who really deserved it for once. However, for me, this year there are people who maybe deserve it more - certainly I would include Ben Ainslie in that, and Chris Hoy, though I can't see beyond Hamilton winning it. Youngest ever world champion is quite an achievement, in the face of the FIA and F1 itself, means he would deserve it to some extent.

Hamilton, Calzaghe and Adlington for me.
I would like Hoy to be placed, but I just think the BBC gushed a lot over the swimming coverage so will probs take the votes.

BBC Have the F1 from next year. They may take this as an opportunity to promote it further and 'give' it to Hamilton. That's if he can be arsed to turn up for such a useless award (in my opinion).

I think Hoy deserves it, however Hamilton will win it as, like stated, the BBC now have F1.

Hamilton should win it and deservedly so. Yes, F1 did itself no favours with the bullshit antics this season. The thing is though; the bullshit adversely affected Hamilton rather than giving him any advantage, yet he still went on to become the youngest ever World Champion in the Pinnacle of Motorsport.

That said, he is British and this is Britain, so let’s knock him instead - it’s what we do best.
