If you're buying a plasma why isn't one of those choices a Panasonic?

    Edit:
Think I know why after looking at the prices

I'd buy the Samsung out of the two. I've not had any problems with my Samsung TV in the 3 years that i've had it. Ant says the sound is crap but if you are getting a 50" TV i'd assume you've got some kind of 5.1 system so it wouldn't be an issue.

This might sound stupid but you could get a smaller 1080p TV for that kind of money, wouldn't that be better?

Bugger I had a sweat on then incase I was talking bollox but what about this one? 1080p and its cheaper but 40" rather than 50" which is way too big unless you have a big house. If I was offered any of these TV's or the two you picked for free i'd go for the one of these. You'll be gutted you didn't get a 1080p TV if you atart watching Blurays etc.

No they don't do it for me I'm afraid.

My own personal view is Plasma looks better or rather the Samsungs do .

I've been using a 40" LCD from Aldi for a couple of years and to be honest to my eye the plasma pictures look better.

Fair play fella I can see why you want a 50" then if you've got a 40". Those I posted wouldn't really be much of an upgrade.

spend a bit more on a panasonic i think, im sure ive seen a 1080p 42" one for 700-800 in the high street, wasnt really looking but i was pissed it was better than mine, for less cash.

I wouldnt worry about the sound being bad from a screen like this, if you have any sense you'll be using a proper set of speakers and an amp.

If i knew the sound was poo and has speakers say a 5.1 , i would get annoyed i know the sound is crap on the TV. Its just from my own experiences of samsung tvs. I have seen 5 which my friends/dad have bought all last generation ones though with shit sound on the speakers. Im sure there is loads of reviews on sites stating this also

infact the tv is on here 4me2 for the samsung one. even says poor sound

    http://www.reevoo.com/reviews/mpn/samsung/ps42a457

it is the 42" model. but i presume its the same spec. Dont want you to buy a shit tv mate

Brother in law has a 1080p 50in Plasma. A samsung. And I am so green eyed you wouldn't believe. He has the surround sound, also Samsung and a matching stand.

    It's so shite...lol... not....

Go for it. I don't know anyone with anything better!

I hope you didn't buy either. Panasonic is the only way to go unless you have £3k to play with for a Kuro 9G
