Weird Laptop only shows power when an external display is plugged in

Well as per the title, I have a Hp 6115ea laptop and it only shows signs of life when the external vga is connected to a display. Even that is vague just turns on for a second, fans spin and then nothing. Have no idea what has happend to cause the latter as it was alright at first, but im beggining to think this is a tale of being fooked on ebay

Need some more info mate. Firstly on the Previous fault with the laptop has it changed?

System is not posting mobo seems to be getting power but cuts out so would suggest some thing on the board or even the proc is causing it.

take it you have striped the system right down? tested with one ram at a time and stuff.

sounds like a dead board or proc problem but can't be sure on what you have done / not done

Right hope this update on the situation will help, basically after much fiddling and jiggery pockery. I found that the cpu seemed to be at fault (which came from the old machine) and also the ram(again old machine), although it did boot with the ram from the old machine it reset after a few seconds. So now my main problem lyes in the fact that the board seems to not be grounded properly, as i can touch the outer metal of the vga lead against the metal of the femal connector, or on a metal plate in the laptop and it seems to work ok. Im starting to think it may have suffered water damage because the laptop i bought off ebay had marks in the casing.

sounds like you might have screwed it down too much on to the case try a out of system build on a anti static mat see if you can get it to post. Also try one ram in one slot at a time sounds like you have more than one fault and with AC only and battery only try and eliminate as much as you can as Working and not working. and List what you have
