Default help with buying a laptop

    hi
need some advice on buying a laptop.
i`m getting one for my daughter for christmas. looking to spend at tops £400 but would prefer to spend less lol
its gonna be just for surfing and very general use, no gaming or anything like that.
these look alright but would prefer a bit of advice

I've been looking about aswell for something similar , I wouldn't go for the dual core , a single core cpu will do for your needs, the more GHZ the better , also look for windows vista home premium not basic . after that it just depends on what you want to spend in ratio to amount of memory / HD size . Think I'm going for a Toshiba Satellite Pro L300-1AD can get for about £300

any further input or better laptop for the price welcome.
    Cheers

I personally think Vista requires at least 2GB and a Dual Core CPU if possible.

Some of the lower Dell Inspiron laptops have this and fall in your price range, you can even pick a pink cover for your daughter too!

I've never seen one of these in the flesh , as mine would be used mainly for internet use would the scroll bars not have to be used constantly for up/down but also left / right ? because of the screen size.

Tbh, spending money on a dual core is wasted if it's for general use like surfing and basic apps.

Genuine Windows Vista (R) Home Basic -
Means it doesnt have the Aero Theme or a few of the other 'worth while' features in Vista.

Other than that I guess it's OK, for an ACER!

side by side the HP looked better and felt better. it has the vista premmium but only 2gb memory.
TBH i like to get something in hands to look at it before i buy which is probably what made me plump for this one.
gotta say looks really good in the flesh, gonna set it up when the young un not in so i`ll tell you what its like to use in a few days.
