    Default Beta software

I`m getting to like this beta software lark.

I just installed Vista SP2 beta and if anything I`d say Vista is running slightly faster (PM if you need help with this).

Also I am using IE Beta 8 on a day to day basis and no probs...and some nice features, as well as windows live messenger 2009 beta...all are sweet as a cadburys cream egg.

is this "upgrade over existing installation" or full install on a seperate partition ?

if its the latter, do you have a dual boot setup ?

    cheers

No, its all upgrade to existing home premium. Find a batch file attached that you run, and then go to windows update and find new updates...itll then upgrade to sp2.

I've found IE8 buggy as it doesn't seem to render certain pages correctly. Messenger beta kept signing me out all the time. Ended up flattening my PC coz IE8 didn't want to uninstall.

Also has anyone noticed that there's a Windows 7 "pre-beta" been leaked onto the net... surely a "pre-beta" would be an alpha? lol

Alpha is latin for "doesn't work"
Beta is latin for "still doesn't work"

Windows 7 isn't even at alpha testing yet!.. so whats before alpha? gonna install it tomorrow, supposed to be faster than Vista already, which isn't very difficult I know... After reading reports, it still has a lot of vista parts, filling areas that aren't complete...

Vista looks great, but is crap... Sadly for me, the eye candy takes preference!!

Every new OS is slower than it's predecessor. That's just a fact of life. More stuff = more processing/hardware requirements. XP may be faster than Vista and XP die hard fan boys keep telling us this but then if they want a super fast OS install win 3.11. I stuck it on a 1gb athlon and from "Starting MS-DOS 6.22..." to a useable windows interface took under 4 seconds...

The issue I found with IE8 was that it would left justify certain things when it shouldn't. Clicking them returned them (nearly) to their proper place. It's really noticable on MS virtual server webpages.

I rolled out MSN beta to about half a dozen machines in the IT dept all of them suffered the same problem. It's more an inconvenience really I'd put up with it coz I love the new layout. The Outlook hotmail connector (finally put back in) is great too...
