Help need some help with a bloody virus

I found a virus on one of my hard drives a couple of days ago, it made a hidden folder called RESYCLED/ with a file called boot.com inside there, it also made an autorun.inf file on the root of the hard drive, that ran this boot file. I thought I caught it in time and cleaned it off all of my hard drives, but I missed one as one of my hard drives shows up as being corrupted. The hard drive appears to work fine, as I can run getdataback for ntfs and could extract stuff from the drive without any problems. How can I get access to this drive to delete the boot files that I reckon are stopping the drive from booting properly?

Its an almost full 500gb drive that i really don't want to have to copy everything off of using getdataback. Any help appreciated

Boot to an external device, USB or Hiren's boot CD. Clean the HDD from there using the Anti-virus apps on Hirens or a specific removal tool for that virus.

There was a Kapersky or some other Anti Virus Boot Disk posted on here a few days back, have a lookie for that.

This was the one I saw: http://www.digital-forums.com/showth...highlight=disk

There's a norton one too, but I'd stay well clear of that shite.

Every PC owner should still have a copy of Hirens Boot CD or USB Key tho ;-)

Cheers guys, i think that might not work for me tho, as i cant even access the drive,
its a usb drive, and when i try to access it, i get the error "the file or directory is corrupted or unreadable"

Ive used test disk, and been in the hard drive itself, all directories and partitions appear fine, but im still unable to get into the drive.

I can see all the files, and ave copied them off the drive and they are fine, but its mostly images and would take forever to recover them all the same way

I`ll burn a copy of hirens boot cd tonight and see if i can get anything on that to sort it for me. I just dont understand why the drive is showing as being fooked, but everything i test it with says its fine, which is why i suspected this virus of not letting it boot properly?

    damn annoying lads lol

Ive opened the disc management console and it shows as being "RAW" and not NTFS. To get it to NTFS i need to format the drive, is there a way round this or am i just going to have to format and start again?

I'd say, if all else is not working, format it then use RecoverMyFiles to do a recovery of the drive. It's gonna take a while, so you'll have to weigh up if it's worth it.

Have you tried running chkdsk /r on the corrupted drive? Failing that it may be worth getting an Acronis Disk Director boot disk as that has a partition recovery tool on it.

Have you run chkdsk against the drive and it looks like your partition table is currupt.

You need something to rebuild your partition table.

chkdsk cant access the drive, ive tried umpteen programs to rebuild the partition table but nothing can do it, acronis just tells me that the drive has a corrupt file record, is thereanything you can suggest to do this?

You should still be able to get your data of the drive with a decent file recovery program. I personally have recovered customers files from drives with the same or similar problems using File Scavenger 3 but I'm sure some of the free programs such as Recuva should do the job.

Out of interest does Acronis show the actual drive partition? You could possibly delete the partition in Acronis and then use the recover partition option to hopefully restore a working partition. I would probably make sure you have recovered your files as above before trying this though.

Does recover partitions not give anything at all?
File recovery software should still have a good chance of getting your files by the way so if there is anything on there that you want its worth running some.

EDIT: Ah you are doing that anyway

As the poster stated you should of tried to backup the data if possible first before trying the delete partition bit because thats the last resort.

You man be able to restore the disc using specific software?
